The Lead Accountant is primarily responsible for accounting entries, reconciliation, and analysis of accounts, cash management, month-end close responsibilities, and monthly reporting. This position works on a team of accountants that is responsible for all key accounting cycles including Revenue / Receivables, Purchasing / Payables, Inventory / COGS, and General Ledger Management.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Perform ongoing accounting activities, including reconciliation, analysis, and maintenance of general ledger reconciliations.
  • Maintain daily cash log and summarize daily bank activity.
  • Perform bi-weekly subledger imports.
  • Maintain and support billing schedules and receivable reporting.
  • Perform accounting for credit card, banking, and investment fees.
  • Tax reporting and filing (sales and use, property, payroll, alcohol, tobacco) as needed.
  • Preparation and review of departmental monthly operating results.
  • Account variances analysis and follow-ups with internal customers.
  • Moderately complex reconciliations of subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
  • Other reporting as needed.
  • Intra-departmental cross-training on various accounting processes.
  • Physical demands are outlined immediately below.
Physical Demands
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
  • Occasionally required to walk and work with hands and arms, lift up to 25 pounds and/or drive a golf cart.
  • Constantly required to sit, sometimes for several hours at a time, and use their hands and fingers to operate a computer.
  • Constantly required to use vision to perform an activity such as but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, looking at products, materials, workmanship, and extensive reading.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual government filings (e.g. census, surveys, property taxes) as needed
  • Support the development of department-level budgets on an annual basis
  • Assist in the collection and preparation of annual audit schedules
  • Assist with non-routine and annual activities related to golf tournaments
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) on assigned responsibilities
  • Review internal controls and, where necessary, assess vulnerable areas, create/update documentation and recommend change(s)
  • Perform other duties which are deemed by management to be an important part of the job
Qualifications:

Skills/Knowledge/Attributes:
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills within a golf course/hospitality company
  • Experience in reconciling, analyzing, and maintaining general ledger accounts
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applications of accounting principles
  • Coordinate workload independently, with minimal supervision, based on pre-set priorities, month-end close responsibilities and support needs of other departments
  • Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with members, management, employees, and vendors
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, while ensuring confidentiality of sensitive data
  • Customer service orientation to both internal and external customers
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to handle changes in project/priority and multiple tasks simultaneously in a positive fashion
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and take on new challenges
Relative Experience/Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, with 2-4 years of accounting experience, preferred
  • Ability to proficiently operate Microsoft Office Suite software applications
  • Prior experience using Oracle accounting and/or club-related systems, specifically NetSuite, preferred but not required
  • CPA or MBA candidate preferred but not required
Required License(s):
  • Possess a valid driver's license and/or successfully completes the Club's internal motor vehicle training program


Projected Work Schedule:

Normal work hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
