Role Title Admin and Office Spec III Role Code 19013-SW Working Title Financial Aid Student Support Specialist Work Location Danville - 590 Job Description Danville Community College developed from two institutions, Danville Technical Institute and the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute opened in 1936 as Danville Textile School, becoming Danville Technical Institute just after World War II. The Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute first began as an engineering division in 1946, and was later expanded to include the first two years of course work for all engineering, business administration, liberal arts, and science majors. Beginning in the summer of 1966, all programs taught by Danville Technical Institute were brought under the Virginia Department of Community Colleges. Effective July 1, 1968, the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute merged with the existing community college providing the comprehensive programs now offered.

1. Perform general financial aid duties associated with the processing of state, federal, and local financial aid assistance programs.

2. Provide high quality customer service to all internal and external constituencies.

3. Serve as initial contact for students and parents on matters pertaining to their financial aid needs and enrollment.

4. Respond to requests submitted within the Financial Aid email account, incoming phone calls from students, faculty, and staff, assist walk-ins with documents.

5. Assist students in completing the Financial Aid application.

6. Process documents within the Student Information System.

7. Scan and maintain documents within the imaging backup software.

8. Assist with student communications required to maintain compliance with federal regulations.

9. Responsible for Student Outreach relating to verification requests.

10. Responsible for processing student SAP appeals.

11. Assist with Financial Aid Work-Shops and other College events as needed.

12. Perform supportive level duties to maintain office structure and continual workflow.

13. Other tasks as assigned by the Financial Aid Director.

Special Assignments May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications Minimum of an associates degree from an accredited college in Administrative Support Technology, or a comparable degree.

Minimum of two years office experience.

Excellent communication skills.

Strong sense of customer/client service.

Strong attention to detail with ability to follow and interpret oral and written rules and regulations.

Strong computer capabilities and proficiency using Microsoft Office.

Commitment to the community college mission as well as knowledge of community college student needs.

Email and internet skills.

Preferred Qualifications Two or more years work experience in a college or university financial aid office.

Experience with PeopleSoft SIS .
