Position Overview
The Virginia Community College System is dedicated to providing comprehensive educational services. The Financial Aid Student Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students with their financial aid inquiries and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute general financial aid tasks related to the administration of state, federal, and local assistance programs.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Act as the primary point of contact for students and their families regarding financial aid inquiries and enrollment issues.
- Manage communications through the Financial Aid email account, respond to incoming calls, and assist walk-in clients with necessary documentation.
- Guide students in completing their Financial Aid applications effectively.
- Process relevant documents within the Student Information System.
- Utilize imaging software to scan and maintain essential documents.
- Support student communications to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
- Conduct outreach to students regarding verification requests.
- Handle the processing of student SAP appeals.
- Assist in organizing Financial Aid workshops and other college-related events as required.
- Perform supportive tasks to uphold office organization and workflow.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by the Financial Aid Director.
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree in Administrative Support Technology or a related field.
- A minimum of two years of office experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong commitment to customer service.
- Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer applications.
- Understanding of community college missions and student needs.
Preferred:
- Two or more years of experience in a financial aid office at a college or university.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft Student Information System.
