The Payroll Accountant will oversee all payroll-related financial data while performing various analytical tasks, ranging from simple to relatively complex, in support of payroll for APM Terminals. This role will act as the SME, responsible for developing, implementing, and supporting payroll financial processes/policies, in alignment of the company’s efforts to comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Open to any state in USA - this role will be remote.

Key Responsibilities

Perform account reconciliations for payroll-related cash and other financial accounts. Develops data to be used in determining cost; Investigates and prepares explanations for any variances of great significance. Serves as liaison between payroll and terminals, assisting in the troubleshooting/resolution of all issues involving APMT payroll accounting. Prepares entries to aid in the creation of financial statements and analysis reports. Assists accounting leadership with month-end and year-end close process. Prepares various weekly and monthly invoices and union assessments for accounts payable. Work with internal and external stakeholders to support payroll queries and reporting. Assists in the development of detailed procedures and workflows to ensure efficiency. Reconcile vendor statements and accounts payroll sub-ledger to ensure accuracy and completeness of transactions; investigate discrepancies for outstanding items. Supports audit requests by providing records and documentation promptly. Prepares monthly accruals for multiple payroll entities. Conduct regular audits of payroll procedures; Ensures data compliance and accuracy.

Required Experience & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required. 3-5 years of Payroll Accounting experience required. Advanced level Excel skills. Enthusiastic about improving processes and developing innovative solutions. Experience with an Payroll/HRIS system such as ADP EV5/EV6 highly preferred.
