Job Description - Medical Department Practice Manager (241582) Hennepin Healthcare is an integrated system of care that includes HCMC, a nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care hospital. The comprehensive healthcare system includes a 484 bed academic medical center, a large outpatient Clinic & Specialty Center, and a network of primary and specialty care clinics in Minneapolis and in suburban communities. Hennepin Healthcare has a large psychiatric program, home care and hospice, and operates a research institute, innovation center and philanthropic foundation. We are currently seeking a Medical Department Practice Manager to join our team to support our Departments of Emergency Medicine, Pathology, Psychiatry, and Psychology. This is a full-time position and will allow the flexibility of a hybrid work site schedule – while ability to work remotely is present, there will be regular needs to have a physical presence on campus. This position provides administrative and fiscal management services to a medical department in addressing clinical, academic and research programs. In this role, you will participate as a member of the senior management team and will direct and supervise other administrative personnel in the department. You may also provide direct oversight of a service line in addition to providing liaison services between the medical department and various internal/external entities. RESPONSIBILITIES Develops, implements and evaluates a business plan, including performance improvement initiatives, in collaboration with key medical group and hospital leaders in collaboration with the department chief. Helps set strategic and operational goals for the department or service line focused on people, care, experience, and financial resources. Establishes and analyzes metrics to monitor progress of short-term and long-term strategic and operational goals. Prepares and monitors the department’s operational and capital budgets. Acts as a catalyst for improving service, efficiency and quality, using established LEAN principles and in coordination with the HHS strategic plan. Works on, collaborates, communicates and leads initiatives that focus on meeting the operational, cultural, patient-centered and financial goals of the medical department and/or program. Leads, facilitates, and manages market based performance measures to benchmark results on patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. Participates with the department chief in marketing initiatives to improve HCMC’s position and to develop and gain approval for new or expanded programs. Establishes internal benchmarks for trending of patient outcomes and care processes and assures that appropriate provider resources are available during all aspects of care. Collaborates with HCMC patient care directors, managers and supervisors to ensure optimum patient care and resolution of operational issues. Develops and maintains systems for ongoing analysis of key operating statistics such as productivity, clinical activity and financial performance. Establishes relationships with lead physicians/business administrators of community groups that admit patients to HCMC. Collaboratively works to resolve issues/concerns with the appropriate hospital departments. Assists in the development and evaluation of interdisciplinary and interdepartmental policies and protocols. Aids recruitment and retention of well-qualified physicians, allied healthcare professionals, and advanced practice practitioners and works with chief to assure providers are working at their maximum potential. Assists the department chief with the faculty salary process. Works collaboratively with the department chief to monitor and regularly review contracts and grants to assure financial integrity and compliance with performance metrics. Ensures compliance with institutional and regulatory authorities. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business management, finance or a field related to the position. At least 8 years professional experience in healthcare or a medical practice setting. At least 3 years healthcare management and supervisory experience. OR An approved equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business management, finance or a field related to the position. Leadership Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to effectively manage company resources (i.e. budget and personnel). Skilled in overseeing the efforts of high-level department individuals. Superb ability to motivate employees and inspire positive change within department. Innovative thinker; Ability to contribute new ideas that support organizational goals. Skilled in managerial duties (i.e. hiring, firing, performance appraisals, pay reviews). Skilled in modeling company values through daily interactions within the department, particularly with regards to health and safety. Capable of supporting the work of the department. High standard of ethics, discipline, and professionalism. Skilled in fostering a positive workplace culture and building inclusive workplace teams.
