The Monarch Supervisory School Intervention Specialist is charged with the responsibility of instructing students in a specific discipline or course of study and is expected to provide the highest caliber of instruction in individual and/or small class settings. The Intervention Specialist works within an interdisciplinary team of specialists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Responsible for implementing appropriate educational plans for each student and class which they instruct including, but not limited to:

Participate, develop and implement each individual student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) Develop lesson plans for small groups and/or individual instruction based on current diagnostic evaluations, keeping in mind the student’s strengths and weaknesses and using appropriate learning and teaching modalities in carrying out instructions. As case manager, organize and lead IEP meeting, which may include school district, parents and other invited agencies. Review and keep document up to date.

In all instructional areas, supervise each student in class and provide general supervision of all students and monitor throughout day. Lead parent staffing meetings. Evaluate the performance of the associate teachers and instructional aides on the Intervention Specialist’s team, including issuing disciplinary action as appropriate, and complete the annual performance evaluations for the associate teachers and instructional aides. Participate and make recommendations in the hiring, disciplinary and discharge processes for the associate teachers and instructional aides on the team and participate in the adjustment of any grievance filed by associate teachers and instructional aides. Assign and responsibly direct associate teachers and instructional aides in the performance of their duties and responsibilities. Intervention Specialists must be alert to safety aspects in both the classroom and the school in general. Incidents must be reported to the Behavior Supervisor and incident reports must be completed by the end of the school day. In conjunction with the Agency Facilities and/or Safety personnel, implement fire and safety measures. Teachers are responsible for providing instruction to students on fire and safety measures. Responsible for writing progress reports that summarize collected data and reflect IEP progress on goals and objectives. Quarterly progress reports will be completed during the school year. Responsible for overseeing lesson planning and guidance of associate teachers and instructional aides working with students on assigned case load. Lead team meetings that take place weekly on a regularly scheduled basis. Typically meetings focus on individual students, classroom curriculum, behavior management and team organization. Responsible for data collection for all assigned students as well as data input weekly.

OTHER DUTIES:

Participate in professional growth activities including training sessions and workshops during the school year that are provided as part of the staff development program. Attend scheduled staff meetings, supervision, and on-going training. All required trainings, certifications and licensure must be kept current in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the clinical record through the timely completion of assigned documentation in accordance with applicable licensing and accreditation regulations and standards. Respect the privacy of clients and hold in confidence all information obtained during the client’s treatment. All client-related documents should be handled in accordance with Agency guidelines on confidential material. Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct and adhere to Agency policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum Bachelor’s Degree Licensure:

Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist Teaching License for Supervisory Intervention Specialist. Valid Non-Tax Teaching Certificate for Supervisory Teacher. Current appropriate Ohio Department of Education license for area of specialty. And/ Or Willingness to obtain alterative pathway licenses

Skills:Sensitivity in relating to persons of varying backgrounds and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people possessing various strengths, aptitudes and abilities. Ability to perform job responsibilities with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using Agency computer systems and software as required to perform essential job functions. Practical and creative problem solving skills. Experience: Combination of education, training and/or experience in working with autistic children.
