The Special Event Security Coordinator must demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to evolving security situations.

Position-Specific Accountabilities:

Facilitate coordination between various stakeholders by scheduling and organizing meetings, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the event planning process. Coordinate meetings related to event planning, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and follow-up actions. Assist in developing and implementing comprehensive security plans for major special events, including NFL team training camp and other large-scale gatherings hosted on campus. Works closely with Campus Safety Services partners and event organizers to assist in the development and implementation of security strategies and protocols identifying potential security risks, and developing strategies to mitigate those risks. Coordinate with other security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency services to develop plans that mitigate risk and facilitate a safe and secure environment. Assist in preparing for security briefings for leadership, preparing Event Action Plans (EAPs) and an overview of potential security challenges and articulating strategies to mitigate them effectively. Coordinate security assessments, including walk-throughs, before and during special events to identify vulnerabilities and keep all stakeholders organized, making recommendations for improvement as necessary. Coordinate plans with the event host and other departments (like Parking and Transportation, Facilities Management, Conference & Event Services). Support the development of the Event Action Plans (EAPs) including maps and briefing materials, utilizing the Incident Command System and associated forms to document event plans clearly and effectively, including security plans and strategies. Assist in acquiring and managing security personnel and resources for effective event deployment, collaborating with budget managers to ensure cost accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints. Work special events as required to ensure their safety and security. Perform other related duties.

Requisite Qualifications

Typically an associate's degree in security management, criminal justice, or a related field or equivalent experience. Incumbents will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. At least two years of experience in security management in special events security, preferably at major sporting venues or other arenas. Must possess or acquire within six-months from date of hire (the "Introductory Period") of employment and keep current a California Guard Card. Requires valid California driver's license to operate university vehicles/carts. Must maintain a "satisfactory" driving record as evidenced by DMV records. Experience establishing spectator screening, creating an effective perimeter, and coordinating K9 sweeps. Knowledge of security protocols, emergency procedures, crowd control, and risk management strategies. Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) preferred. Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) preferred, but not required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational and writing skills. Entrepreneurial approach to problem solving. Ability to work under pressure and manage emergencies effectively. Strong leadership skills with the ability to coordinate with multiple entities that may have competing priorities. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays. Incumbents will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes. This position is required to wear an approved duty uniform or appropriate business attire.

This position is deemed as Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act.

This position is deemed a Mandatory Reporter by university policy.
