Location: University of MN Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN

Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period), benefit eligible

Schedule:
  • 1st Week: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday
  • 2nd Week: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday
  • 3rd Week: 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, Monday and Tuesday
  • 4th Week: Rotating shifts:
    • 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm or 10:00 pm - 6:00 am, with weekends from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm

Responsibilities/Job Description:
Job Summary:

As a Maintenance Engineer at our facility, you will operate and maintain equipment and fixtures following hospital and departmental guidelines. Your role is crucial in ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Job Expectations:

  • Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

    • Repair and maintain equipment and systems assigned within the hospital to ensure patient safety and compliance with regulatory standards.
    • Follow accepted practices and procedures for mechanical and electrical equipment, including plumbing, controls, HVAC refrigeration, electrical/emergency power, and building automation systems.

  • System Operations and Troubleshooting:

    • Develop a detailed understanding of major systems, operate them safely and efficiently, and troubleshoot problems to minimize downtime and ensure continuous service distribution.

  • Miscellaneous Equipment Maintenance:

    • Repair, maintain, adjust, and calibrate various portable equipment brought to the shop for repairs, such as wheelchairs, carts, kitchen equipment, barometers, beds, and tubes.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Use blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals proficiently to troubleshoot and isolate problems.
    • Demonstrate safe and efficient practices in the use of hand and power tools.

  • Preventive Maintenance:

    • Perform periodic preventive maintenance on fans, motors, belts, HVAC systems, steam, water, sewer, air, and vacuum lines as assigned.

  • Documentation:

    • Complete and submit required documentation, including work logs, checklists, and other necessary records.

  • Safety and Efficiency:

    • Perform all duties in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.

  • Cultural Competence:

    • Demonstrate the ability to provide care or service, adjusting approaches to reflect the developmental level and cultural differences of the population served.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
  • Five years of experience in operation and maintenance in a commercial, industrial, or institutional environment.
License/Certification/Registration:
  • Possesses or will strive to obtain a valid Minnesota Maintenance Electrical license.
Preferred Qualifications: Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited trade school in refrigeration, electricity, building maintenance, or other appropriate course.
Experience:
  • Additional relevant experience in maintenance and operations.
License/Certification/Registration:
  • Minnesota Maintenance Electrical License.
  • Universal Refrigeration License.
