We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic lead barista to join our team of hospitality professionals. A positive spirit and passion for food and beverage is essential.

The Buttery is a wholesale and retail bakery serving freshly baked breads and pastries alongside a selection of freshly prepared takeaway offerings. We have indoor seating and a patio for guests to enjoy freshly brewed coffees and built to order breakfast sandwiches. Our shop is located off of Cheshire Bridge & Piedmont Road. What is the Job?

As a Lead Barista, you will train and develop the shop team's technical skills. You will assist the manager in ideating and rolling out seasonal drink offerings. The Lead Barista will work the beverage counter, taking guest orders and serving delicious drinks from our La Marzocco espresso machine. The lead barista will also be able to work the pastry counter, assisting guests with boxing pastries and prepared foods, restocking the shop, and supporting the team to keep a clean and organized space. You will create a welcoming and memorable experience for guests by training a confident and enthusiastic shopkeeper team in the barista station, assisting guests with their needs, and maintaining the shop aesthetic.

What are the responsibilities?
  • Lead trainings on working the barista station, enhancing current skills and teaching new hires
  • Ensure barista machines are being used to brand standard, ensuring cleaning and preventative maintenance are being performed, and maintaining food & beverage safety standards
  • Assist manager and work with pastry team on new seasonal drink flavors
  • Assists manager with ordering & receiving beverage supplies to maintain a well-stocked barista counter
  • Demonstrate knowledge of baked goods, breads, and viennoiserie
  • Set up and maintain a clean, organized shop according to brand standards; restocks all items as needed throughout shift
  • Work as a team player, helping your fellow shopkeepers with guest interactions and shop duties to contribute to a positive working environment
  • Possess the ability to positively and proactively handle guest concerns
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and openly communicate with your manager and fellow shopkeepers about next steps
  • Consistent adherence to the uniform policy
  • Reports for duty on time and manages one's shift, communicating with their manager when leaving their station for breaks or family meal

What are the requirements?
  • 3+ year(s) of relevant barista experience preferred
  • Able to move and/or lift heavier merchandise
  • Able to stand for long periods of time; occasionally kneel, bend, and crouch as required to reach items at varying height levels
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment calmly and effectively
