Purpose:

Functions as the senior level supply chain and category professional with primary responsibility to the management of suppliers and their products within their division, and the associated profitability to UNFI or both.

Responsibilities include management of UNFI’s supplier relationships, maximizing topline growth and profit opportunities for UNFI, and when strategically in alignment, increasing sales opportunities for the supplier. Identifies and develops new strategic opportunities and partnerships to drive retained income to UNFI, increase assortment productivity and manage operational capacity.

At the core, this role develops and strengthens supplier relationships through joint business planning and effective sales execution while achieving revenue and margin goals, and mitigating profit risks. This position is well versed in the trends of the industry and effectively communicates and leverages UNFI’s value proposition as the distributor of choice in Canada.

Job Responsibilities:

Procurement:

Monitors and manages supplier fill rate performance and develops strategies with the supplier to improve performance metrics without added costs to UNFI.

Reviews regularly SKU mix independently and with cooperation of suppliers to ensure UNFI distribution centers stock the necessary items required within the marketplace, while mitigating shrink risk.

· Develops strategies to effectively manage SKU assortment based on:

o Capacity, Category Trends, SKU Rationalization.

· Identifies and assesses brand strategy prior to selection and onboarding of vendors.

· Builds strategic relationships through industry relations, identifies and sources new brands at Tradeshows and Industry Events.

· Monitors fill rate performance metrics and develops strategies with supplier to improve.

Margin Strategy & Negotiation:

Leads all Supplier Policies and Guidelines (SP&G) contract negotiations.

Negotiates costing that meets or exceeds our profit targets through supplier alignment on: Cost

Supplier & UNFI Cost Increases

Program Subsidies (MCB)

Trade & Promotions

Works cross-functionally to assess supplier opportunities, launches and transfers

Supplier/Broker Management:

Coaches and develops associates through modification and implementation of scorecards and SOP’s that drive clarity and expectations.

Manages a team of supplier relationship managers and support staff by appropriately applying measurements and deliverables in alignment with company goals and targets.

Maintains a current knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, channel, products, and competitors to support supplier development and path to mutual growth.

Creates and manages a supplier business environment that builds supplier programs designed to drive profitable sales for UNFI and its suppliers.

Builds and fosters relationships with supplier/brokers.

Provides leadership and direction to create sales and drive strategies within the department.

Manages debit balances and mitigation strategies.

Executes SP&G and contractual obligations.

Executes regular business reviews.

Sales Execution:

Sets quarterly priorities.

Participates in the sales volume calls. Effectively communicates sales opportunities and risks in order to meet category sales objectives.

Prepares Customer Programming (Prebooks/Brands+)

Determines annual promotional planning/monthly specials and catalogue.

Joint Business Planning:

Works with SRMs to build joint business: Leads strategic planning sessions with select suppliers based on size of business.

Leads joint business planning process.

Revenue Generation:

Formulates the annual retained income P&L with oversight and delivery of marketing, tradeshow, Enhance & UpNext targets.

Drives sales against our professional services program.

Continuous Improvement:

Identifies gaps in process and develops SOPs to meet business needs.

Proposes topics and leads supplier webinars.

Other:

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education/ Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Experience:

8+ years of supplier relationship management related experience

5+ years of management or leadership experience

Skills & Abilities:

Strong knowledge of infrastructure, protocols, and applications of marketing transactions.

Thorough knowledge of industry trends, opportunities, products, and competitors.

Proven experience in organize, coordinate, and direct complex, multi-faceted projects.

Strong oral and written communications abilities.

Solid analytical and technical abilities.

Good accounting and budget development skills, financial management of P&L and profitability.

Associate development, problem solving and coaching skills.

Excellent negotiation and management skills.

Excellent presentation skills.

Extremely computer literate.
