Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, oversees the operations of the Accounting department. Responsible for the timely and accurate financial statements and reporting of the organization. Participates in the month end close process, Call Report preparation and the review and reconciliation of the credit unions corporate accounts.

Duties and Functions Essential to the Successful Performance of the Job

  • Maintain efficient, accurate and timely accounting, recordkeeping, and reporting systems in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States (GAAP), NCUA Rules and Regulations and other applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Assist CFO in the preparation of the monthly closing documents and quarterly Call Report ensuring accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Oversee the maintenance of the fixed asset accounting system and equipment inventory schedule.
  • Implement and coordinate the application of finance accounting procedures.
  • Act as a backup for payroll.
  • Assist with training and developing employees in the department. Assists and trains employees in other departments with procedural weaknesses pertaining to the accounting function.
  • Develop and recommend resolutions to problems using procedures and applicable policies for guidance.
  • Recommends process improvements as appropriate.
  • Assist CFO with developing, implementing, and maintaining credit union internal controls.
  • Monitors internal controls and validates policies and procedures are being adhered to.
  • Comply with all department and credit union policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.


Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:

High School or equivalent

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or in a related field (preferred)

Experience:

5 to 10 years of accounting, general ledger, and financial reporting experience

Experience at a credit union or bank preferred

Specific Skills:

Accurate and detail oriented

Excellent math and communication skills

Strong organizational and analytical ability

Ability to use independent judgement and to manage and impart information to a range of internal resources

Capacity to work effectively and efficiently under time constraints and deadlines

Ability to handle multiple tasks at different degrees of difficulty, and the competency and willingness to take on additional responsibilities when required

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment; team player, willing to help others in the department, mature attitude, and work ethic

General understanding of Credit Union policies and procedures and standard banking practices (preferred)

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc.:

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)

Ability to operate a 10-key calculator/adding machine

Supervisory Responsibility if any

Supervises Accounting Department

Other

Must have the flexibility to occasionally work late or come in early in preparation for or during exams/audits.
