The Service Coordinator (SC) provides an array of self-sufficiency supportive services to Detroit Housing Commission (DHC) residents and their families. They may provide workforce development, employment readiness, job specific training, informal counseling; information and referral; plan educational programs; and linkage to community service providers to coordinator services as needed. The (SC) also educates residents on available services, develops contacts with service providers and agencies for resident referrals and monitors provision and quality services. The Service Coordinator works in conjunction with the RSD Manager and other management staff of the housing authority to empower residents to become economically independent and self-reliant.
Knowledge
Knowledge of HUD programs, requirements, and policies/procedures preferred
Knowledge of organization’s structure, policies, and procedures
Knowledge of social service delivery systems
Knowledge of community service and self-sufficiency programs
Knowledge of basic office practices, procedures, and equipment
Knowledge of standard office procedures, filing, and standard office equipment, including computer, fax, copier, telephone system
Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work, case management, home ownership, career counseling and the service delivery
Essential Job Functions
Establish programs based on the (4) Pillars of Self-Sufficiency including but not limited to Economic Empowerment, Educational Advancement, Health & Wellness and Character & Leadership 35%
Provides case management (i.e., evaluation of social, psychological, and physical needs and the development of a service plan) for a resident when such service is not being provided by the general service community 25%
Monitors and performs quality supportive services delivery to residents 15%
Provide mediation services for resident's disputes, as appropriate, and seek out assistance with existing community resources when needed 5%
Assists and advocates residents and family members of all services which may be necessary to maintain a self-reliant lifestyle 5%
Educates residents on service availability, application procedures, residents rights, etc. both individually and as a group 1%
Reports all suspected abuse situations to the appropriate agency 1%
Assists resident/family when a higher level of care may be necessary 1%
Assists management in identifying residents who need assistance
Meet and maintain all grant funded metrics

Educational Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree (concentration in Social Work, Family Services, Psychology or Public Health, or other related fields)
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Experience Requirements
2 years or more experience and knowledge of workforce development, community services within the region and services that are provided for the population living within the housing communities
2 years or more experience with awareness of eligibility and procedures of Federal and State entitlement programs
