Atlanta, United States Atlanta Legal Aid Society Full time

The Director of Human Resources will support the senior leadership of Atlanta Legal Aid as we celebrate our centennial and bring transformational change to the program. Founded in 1924, our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law in a five-county service area (Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton, Gwinnett). Legal Aid employs over 150 staff and operates five offices and numerous units, programs and projects throughout its service area. Our clients and their legal issues are diverse and numerous. The Director of Human Resources will work to advance and support the needs of the staff and program as we work with our clients.

Responsibilities:

The Director of Human Resources reports to and works with the Executive Director and Deputy Director to direct and manage all human resources functions and keep track of trends in the human resources field. The Director of Human Resources is responsible for recruitment and retention with an eye towards diversity, equity and inclusion, employee relations and benefits, including health and wellness. The Director of Human Resources will develop and implement programs, policies and procedures related to all human resource functions and objectives. Other responsibilities include supporting management by providing guidance, training and coaching in employment matters and responding to employee questions and concerns. Periodic visits to all Legal Aid offices, units, programs and projects are required; the program reimburses mileage for such visits.

Qualifications :

A Bachelor’s degree and at least seven years of experience in Human Resources Management or a related field is required. Applicants must have outstanding interpersonal skills with a focus on empathy and kindness when dealing with staff in difficult situations. Applicants must have solid conflict resolution skills, discretion with confidential and sensitive information, and an appreciation for diversity. Other qualifications include the ability to work with people at all levels, the ability to adapt to the culture of the organization and staff while promoting positive change, strong leadership skills, knowledge of employment-related laws, regulations and best practices, good written and oral communication skills, and proficient computer skills. Applicants must also be accountable for time and work product, able to set priorities and meet deadlines, able to prioritize and delegate tasks, able to multitask, be organized, attentive to detail, and willing to make a two-year employment commitment. Prior experience working in a legal services organization or other non-profit organization, membership in SHRM or another human resource management professional organization and HR accreditations are highly valued. Given the nature of the position, willingness to work in the office an average of 4 days per week is highly desired.

Salary and Benefits: The salary for seven years of experience is $105,000. (The salary offered may increase or decrease depending on the actual, relevant experience of the selected candidate.) Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale. The program provides generous fringe benefits including 18 paid holidays (in 2024), 6 weeks paid time off, 6 weeks parental leave; health, life, and long and short-term disability insurance; partial payment for dependent health insurance; a salary reduction option for a flexible spending account; educational loan reimbursement up to $600 per month (after a set off of other loan reimbursement amounts); and a voluntary tax-sheltered annuity with 3% match.

This position may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness through the U.S. Department of Education.

Application Requirements: Submit a letter of interest; resume; recent writing sample (letter, memorandum or policy); official college transcript (a copy is acceptable pending your order of an official transcript); and the names, phone numbers and email addresses of three professional references (preferably individuals who have supervised or managed your work) as one (1) PDF using our online application system at atlantalegalaid.org/jobs .
