This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works' New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union ("RWDSU"). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a "CBA") between Housing Works and the RWDSU Compensation Range: $18/hr - $20.40/hr commensurate with experience. Overview: The Harm Reduction Operations Specialist will work with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. S/he will 1) operate and maintain all equipment and services associated with the disposal of hazardous and regular waste; 2) manage the Community Shower Program. This staff member will interact with staff and participants according to standard Harm Reduction Principles and assist staff and participants as needed.Responsibilities: Primary:Operate and maintain all equipment and services associated with the disposal of hazardous and regular wasteSterilisStericycleCity WasteManage monthly pick up of syringe containers from subcontracted vendorsReceive and process clean up materials gathered by the Harm Reduction outreach programsManage the Community Shower ProgramEnsure client access by maintaining a proper workflowClean and sterilize the shower facility between each client use.Maintain shower suppliesOrganize and maintain syringe exchange program suppliesOrganize and maintain program supply closet.Interact with staff and participants according to standard Harm Reduction PrinciplesAssist staff and participants as needed.Other functions that may be required with this position include:Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement planning projects and activities as directed by program management.Participates in monthly staff meetings and service flow improvement discussions. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required.Qualifications/ RequirementsPreferable training in the following areas:HIV 101Viral Hepatitis 101LGBT Sensitivity o Needle stick prevention Training.HIPPA ComplianceCulturally aware and sensitive to PWUD (People Who Use Drugs), PLWHA (People Living with HIV/AIDS), LGBTQAI, YIDU (Young Intravenous Drug Users), SMI (Severe Mental Illness), and MSM (Men who have Sex with Men)The following additional competencies are viewed as important to success in this position:Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.Possess working knowledge of the methods, technique, and materials used in custodial work.Familiar with operating, caring for, and storing custodial equipment and supplies.Essential Physical Demands/ Working Conditions:Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.Comfortable squatting, twisting, bending, and kneeling while using tools and performing maintenance tasks.
