Job Summary
The Director of Engineering oversees aspects of engineering practices within the Solution Engineering team. Engineering includes technical architecture, solution development, software development, database development, and quality assurance.
The Director is ultimately responsible for managing the successful delivery of high-quality solution and software projects. This includes but is not limited to ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget while providing an outstanding client experience throughout the project. By taking an active role in the implementation of projects, the Director will identify, mitigate, communicate, and escalate issues quickly and efficiently while also providing guidance on architecture, design, and engineering concerns.
Key Responsibilities
The Director of Engineering will oversee technical architecture, solution development, software and database development, and quality assurance. This includes leveraging strong software development capabilities, implementing robust testing practices, and utilizing AWS technologies (Lambda, Event Bridge/SQS/SNS, CloudWatch, DynamoDB). Proficiency in .NET and/or Java, front-end development with Angular, SQL Server, MongoDB Atlas, and UI/UX design is essential. The Director will engage in regular communication with senior management, providing detailed updates on project statuses, and conducting regular check-ins with the technical team to convey executive direction and reinforce company policies. Attendance at project meetings to monitor progress, risks, and issues is also required.
Director will manage human resources aspects, including establishing personnel budgets, participating in recruiting, performing annual reviews, and developing employee incentive programs. Ensuring the technical team is appropriately sized and skilled for current and upcoming work is crucial, as is making decisions regarding the use of contractors versus permanent hires. The Director will foster a mentorship environment, enforce accountability, and ensure adherence to engineering best practices across the team. They will also assist in driving new sales, identifying opportunities for additional services, and providing technical expertise during client interactions and project scope estimations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
Proven experience in software development and engineering leadership.
Strong background in AWS, .NET/Java, SQL Server, MongoDB, Angular, and UI/UX.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage teams, projects, and budgets effectively.
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Experience with sales and client interactions is a plus.
Consulting and/or professional service experience.
