Position Overview:

Key Responsibilities:

- Serve as the Chair of the Traffic and Safety Subcommittee, overseeing all tasks assigned by the Standard Committee. Collaborate with Subcommittee members, FHWA, and Contract and Specifications to ensure project completion. Secure necessary approvals from FHWA for completed assignments.

- Collaborate with the APL team to assess new traffic-related products for potential inclusion in the Approved Products List (APL).

- Develop, maintain, and prepare Traffic Guidance Plans (TGPs) for all traffic engineering-related items. Create and update Standard Drawings for Traffic Control, Signing, and Marking, along with the Arizona Supplement of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). Ensure the manual of approved signs is kept up to date with current standards.

- Represent the Traffic Engineering Groups and ADOT in various meetings, ensuring accurate interpretation of MUTCD-related information.

- Act as the compliance manager for both in-house and consultant projects, ensuring adherence to State and Federal laws and Design Guidelines. Coordinate compliance review activities with Team Leaders and assign tasks accordingly. Review plans, engineering studies, reports, estimates, and special provisions for completeness and compliance with applicable guidelines and standards.

- Perform managerial duties, including task assignment, technical guidance, conducting performance reviews, coaching, and mentoring employees. Collaborate with HR on disciplinary actions to ensure compliance with State Policies and Regulations.

- Support and promote the ADOT Mission, Vision, and Goals through all activities.

- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned relevant to the position.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge:
- Advanced understanding of civil and traffic engineering principles and practices related to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of highway systems.
- In-depth knowledge of AASHTO traffic specifications, standards, and best practices.
- Strong foundation in computer science with a clear understanding of traffic policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with Federal and State statutes, agency standards, regulations, and safety procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of traffic engineering and safety countermeasures.

Skills:
- Proficient in research techniques related to complex engineering assignments and documentation.
- Strong interpersonal skills to lead, motivate, and guide a highly technical staff.

Abilities:
- Capability to coach and develop employees, emphasizing continuous improvement practices.
- Ability to foster a respectful and trustworthy environment among staff and partners.
- Competence in planning, organizing, and optimizing resources to achieve quality and schedule objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and have experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineering grade 26.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Candidates must hold certification as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona. This role necessitates driving as an essential function, requiring a valid driver's license and adherence to all necessary training and record checks.
