Position Overview:
The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is seeking a dedicated leader to embody our core values by fostering a culture of continuous improvement through effective coaching and development of our team. Your role will involve modeling a collaborative culture focused on employee engagement and professional growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Chair of the Traffic and Safety Subcommittee, overseeing all tasks assigned by the Standard Committee.
- Collaborate with Subcommittee members, FHWA, and Contract and Specifications to ensure successful project completion.
- Obtain necessary approvals from FHWA for completed assignments by the Standard Committee.
- Work with the APL team to assess new traffic-related products for potential inclusion in the Approved Products List.
- Prepare and maintain Traffic Guidance Plans (TGPs) for all traffic engineering-related items.
- Develop and update Standard Drawings for Traffic Control, Signing, and Marking, along with the Arizona Supplement of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Maintain the manual of approved signs to ensure compliance with current standards.
- Represent the Traffic Engineering Groups and ADOT in various meetings.
- Update traffic-related documents on the ADOT website to keep information current.
- Act as compliance manager for both in-house and consultant projects, ensuring adherence to State and Federal laws and Design Guidelines.
- Review engineering plans, studies, reports, and estimates for completeness and compliance with applicable guidelines.
- Perform managerial duties, including task assignment, technical guidance, performance reviews, and employee mentoring.
- Collaborate with HR on disciplinary actions to ensure compliance with State Policies and Regulations.
- Promote and support the ADOT Mission, Vision, and Goals.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Advanced technical knowledge of civil and traffic engineering principles and practices.
- Expertise in AASHTO Traffic specifications and best practices.
- Strong background in computer science and understanding of traffic policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with Federal and State statutes, agency standards, and safety procedures.
- Strong knowledge of traffic engineering and safety countermeasures.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to provide leadership and motivation to a technical staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and experience equivalent to a Transportation Engineering grade 26.
Certification Requirements:
Candidates must hold a Professional Engineer certification in the State of Arizona.
