Director of Labor Management

Position Summary:
The Director of Labor Management plans, organizes and directs all field labor functions in Eastern Wisconsin. Responsibilities include implementation of the labor development strategy, facilitation of field processes, management of standard work practices and quality, and field labor management functions. Individual will oversee the NEW Labor Committee and hold responsibility for leadership, management, and accountability within that function.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership
• Leads team of labor managers, labor coordinators, and field supervisors to achieve business goals
• Executes management functions including quarterly conversations, performance reviews, training and development, etc.
• Facilitates collaboration across regional offices
Labor Development
• Develops and maintains rapport with field personnel across all trades
• Executes field communication tools including field leader Level 10 meetings
• Implements field leader individual development strategies – 1×1 discussions and development plans
• Leads talent assessment and evaluation processes
• Coordinates tradesperson leadership trainings and mentorship
• Manages in-house technical trainings and skills inventories
• Organizes recruiting efforts at local high schools and technical colleges in collaboration with HR team
• Maintains relationships with key union officials and local industry partners
• Delivers timely and constructive feedback to employees at all levels of the organization
Field Labor Process Management
• Executes the truck assignment process in conjunction with internal stakeholders
• Facilitates implementation of standard work practices for field installation – drives improvement processes to achieve business results
• Manages the flex program for labor development and workload leveling
• Analyzes available data and tracks weekly metrics for field operations
• Manages foreman onboarding process
• Facilitates the travel arrangement process to ensure consistency and maintain integrity
• Manages short interval planning process and other resource planning tools in conjunction with operations
• Facilitates field labor issue resolution – works with leaders across departments to facilitate communication
• Works with operations leaders to consistently track jobsite expectations, project goals, and productivity reporting
Preferred Knowledge, Experience & Skills Requirements:
• Completed 5-year apprenticeship program, bachelor’s degree in construction related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum 10 years’ experience managing personnel
• Experience initiating department changes and leading a team who implements those changes
• Individual with established relationships with field personnel and internal department leaders
• Must have good written and oral communication skills
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred
