The Database Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to: External communications and collaborations with physical scientists and computer scientists, requirements gathering, Help Desk support, process design and documentation for data integrity and data dissemination, and database development. Leverages existing user-facing data dissemination mechanisms and expands on it to provide seamless data discovery and access to climate model output for efficient data analysis. Develop data standardization, microservices, and packages for the organization. Manages data publishing requests. Implements unified systems and web portals for metadata collection leveraging data catalogs, databases, data dissemination processes and usage metrics. Demonstrated ability to coordinate with QA/QC personnel and data engineers to initiate data dissemination protocols. Co-creates a process for seamless data dissemination, traceability and creditorship of data. Data delivery. Qualifications Required Qualifications: A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related scientific or technical discipline. Four years of specialized experience in determining information technology effects on the organizational structure and determining the ability that IT can support/meet organizational goals. With a Masters Degree (in the fields described above): two years experience. With a PH.D. (in the fields described above): one year experience. With at least 8 years of specialized experience, a degree is not required. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance which requires US Citizenship. Experience with version control and documentation. Proven experience in developing data standardization, microservices, and packages. Background in implementing data management strategies and functions data steward roles in partnering with different stakeholders and cross-divisional liaisons in the organization. Ability to work independently and self direct work. Background in Help Desk support and directions for serving data. Desirable Skills: Professional knowledge in one or more physical science fields. Program and Project Details: GFDL is focused on comprehensive long-lead-time research that is fundamental to advancing the scientific understanding of the physical, dynamical, chemical and biogeochemical processes governing the behavior of the atmosphere, oceans, land, and ice components and their interactions with the ecosystem. Scientists at GFDL develop and use Earth system models and computer simulations to improve our understanding and prediction of all aspects of the climate system. GFDL scientists focus on model-building relevant for society, for hurricane research, weather and ocean prediction, seasonal forecasting, understanding regional and global climate change, and more. GFDL has pioneered much of the worlds research on the modeling of climate change since 1955. GFDLs research encompasses the predictability and sensitivity of global and regional climate; the structure, variability, dynamics and interaction of the atmosphere, the ocean, sea ice, and land; and the ways that the atmosphere, oceans, and land influence, and are influenced by various trace constituents. This science incorporates a variety of disciplines including meteorology, oceanography, hydrology, classical physics, fluid dynamics, chemistry, applied mathematics, and numerical analysis. Research at GFDL is facilitated by the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Program, which is a collaborative program with Princeton University. Under this program, Princeton faculty, research scientists, and graduate students participate in theoretical, analytical, numerical, and observational studies.
