The purpose of the Certified Peer Support Specialist serves as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to youth and their families in an effort to improve child and family functioning. Additionally, as a Certified Peer includes supporting mental health management and substance use recovery in order to help promote long-term quality of life. The Certified Peer Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and develop authentic peer -to- peer relationships.

An evidenced based service model with proven results is used by the program.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:** High School Diploma or GED plus five (5) years related experience and have an active and current Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) through the FL Certification Board. Applicant must be able to pass a DCF Level II background screen, drug screen, and Tuberculosis (TB) test. Applicant must have a valid drivers license with no major violations and be able to be insured under BCIs automobile policy.

**JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:** The job responsibilities of a Certified Peer Support Specialist include, but are not limited to:

- Helps families explore interests and develop positive life experience, while providing emotional support and guidance toward healthy decision making.

- Encourages positive peer relationships and healthy social outlets, while identifying opportunities to develop skills and achieve personal growth.

- Utilize tools such as the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) to assist clients in creating their own individual wellness and recovery plans.

- Uses ongoing individual and group sessions to teach clients how to identify and combat negative self-talk and how to identify and overcome fears by providing a forum which allows group members and peers to share their experiences. Encourages clients in development of hope through learning of strengths and combating negative self-talk.

- Models and reinforce responsible interpersonal and self-respecting behavior.

- Teaches and supports families to develop their own plans and access their own resources

- Encourages positive parenting, family interactions, and competence with family life skills management such as financial responsibility and homemaking skills, while encouraging mutual understanding.

- With other team members, provides support and education to family members to help them become knowledgeable about mental illness, collaborate in the treatment process, and assist in their family members progress.

- Helps families understand developmental readiness and utilizes teachable moments to surface issues that are important in helping clients and families reach their long-range vision.

- Teaches and supports families to develop their own plans and access their own resources.

- Learns, models, teaches, and coaches Conscious Discipline and Whole-brained strategies as a tool for parents and youth.

**WORK LOCATION:** Travel to Fort Walton Beach and Crestview

**BASE WAGE:** The base wage for this position is **$1****4****.00 per hour**.
