Job Summary and Qualifications


The Anesthesia Support Specialist plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional, patient-focused care by providing critical anesthesia assistance to the anesthesia clinician during surgical procedures.

Their proactive approach to preparing and maintaining supplies, patient monitoring equipment, and anesthesia delivery systems helps anticipate the clinician's needs.

As a member of the perioperative team, the Anesthesia Support Specialist collaborates with the circulating RN and the perioperative team to ensure a safe and optimal patient perioperative experience.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing and organizing equipment and supplies for scheduled and urgent cases in anesthetizing locations.
  • Reviewing current and upcoming surgical schedules to ensure anesthesia staff have the necessary equipment and supplies for routine and complex cases.
  • Transporting and setting up equipment required for procedures, including laryngoscope blades, monitors, EKG cables, ETCO2 lines, pulse oximetry cables, temperature cables, and oxygen tanks/tubing.
  • Ensuring equipment is decontaminated and in proper working order before each procedure.
  • Following department protocols for the procurement and handling of non-controlled medications, I.V. fluids, contrast media, and irrigating fluids in the surgical services area.
  • Performing thorough and prompt room turnover between procedures, including cleaning and disinfection, restocking of anesthesia supplies, and cleaning/storing of anesthesia equipment and instrumentation as needed.
  • Demonstrating proficiency with equipment point-of-use care and transport, including initial bedside decontamination of TEE probes and bronchoscopes.
  • Calibrating and troubleshooting minor malfunctions of anesthesia equipment and reporting all damaged or unsafe equipment.
  • Responding promptly to on-call situations as scheduled.

What qualifications you will need:
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
