The Certified Peer Specialist is a professional with lived mental health experience who is trained and certified to provide support, help, and encouragement for others who are also working their way toward wellness.

These specialists may go by different names in different settings and are also known as Recovery Coaches and Lay Counselors. Certified Peer Specialist will provide support and assistance to individuals with mental health challenges, utilizing their own lived experience to promote recovery and wellness. They will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to empower individuals and facilitate their journey towards self-determination and improved quality of life.

1. EDUCATION: High School

2. EXPERIENCE: 1- 2 years

3. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Certification as a Peer Specialist from an accredited program.

Valid Florida driver’s license and Satisfactory driving record

4. SKILLS/ABILITIES: Bilingual in English/Spanish preferable

1. Provide peer support: The Certified Peer Specialist is expected to offer empathetic and non-judgmental peer support to individuals with mental health challenges, promoting their recovery and well-being.

2. Foster a safe and supportive environment: Create a safe and inclusive space where individuals feel comfortable sharing their experiences and seeking support.

3. Collaborate with the treatment team: Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, including mental health professionals, to ensure coordinated and holistic care for individuals.

4. Maintain professional boundaries: Adhere to professional boundaries and ethical guidelines when engaging with individuals, respecting their privacy and confidentiality.

5. Continuously develop knowledge and skills: Stay updated on current research, best practices, and emerging trends in the field of mental health recovery

and peer support. Seek opportunities for professional

development and growth.

6. Advocate for individuals' rights and needs: Advocate

for individuals' rights, needs, and preferences within the healthcare system and community, promoting self-

determination and empowerment.

7. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity: Show respect for

diverse backgrounds, cultures, and identities, ensuring

that support is provided in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner.

8. Maintain accurate documentation: Keep accurate and confidential records of interactions, progress notes, and any relevant information in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

9. Adhere to professional standards: Conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner, following the organization's code of conduct and any relevant regulations or guidelines.

10. Embrace a recovery-oriented approach: Embrace and promote recovery-oriented principles and practices, focusing on individuals' strengths, resilience, and potential for growth.

SPECIFIC AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY TO POSITION

1. This is a full-time position with flexible days and hours available 7 days a week, both during the days and

evenings; will work with other program partners to develop strategies that help encourage homeless

individuals to take steps leading to housing

2. Utilize personal lived experience to provide peer support, guidance, and advocacy to individuals with mental

health challenges.

3. Assist individuals in setting and achieving recovery goals, promoting self-empowerment and independence.

4. Facilitate peer support groups and educational workshops to enhance individuals' knowledge and skills

related to mental health and wellness.

5. Collaborate with the treatment team to develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring

continuity of care and support.

6. Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of interactions and progress notes in accordance with

organizational policies and procedures.

7. Stay updated on current trends, research, and best practices in the field of mental health recovery and peer

support.

8. The majority of the work may require travel and being a support to clients on necessary appointments.

9. Guides and supports clients; self-starter, passionate about helping homeless individuals, have excellent

communication skills, be attentive to detail, and relentless in driving outcomes

10. Engage with individuals in a compassionate and non-judgmental manner, fostering a supportive and

trusting relationship.

11. Flexible driving to different FHS- Sanitas Locations with own vehicle

12. Valid Florida driver’s license and Satisfactory driving record

13. Perform other duties as needed.
