Overview

The Inventory Accountant reviews, reconciles, and analyzes inventory and costs. Additionally, this position partners with operations on trends and improvement opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyze inventory movements to ensure accurate data reconciliation from external sources
  • Evaluate overall inventory trends and recommend operational process improvements
  • Document and maintain internal controls related to inventory and costs in accordance with accounting principles
  • Work with senior field personnel to facilitate the training of new employees on inventory processes and procedures
  • Reconcile inventory transactions by location to the general ledger to ensure accuracy
  • Analyze and document impacts and trends in inventory cost and turns; provide results and recommendations to company operations
  • Reconcile in-transit inventory with support from field personnel
  • Research, analyze, and document inventory variances, making recommendations on how to minimize them
  • Work with other team members to identify, investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies
  • Design and develop inventory reports to facilitate timely action in the field to correct issues in cost/pricing to maximize profitability
  • Assist APM accounting as needed
  • Document and follow department processes and procedure

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
  • One year of applicable experience
  • Knowledge of automated accounting systems and processes and GAAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail and excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines with a high degree of time management skills
  • Ability to problem solve and provide detailed backup to support recommendations
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language to communicate with customers, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Ability to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening and criminal background check
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne
  • Knowledge of PDI Technologies Petroleum Accounting software
  • Ability to work and keep on schedule with minimal supervision
