Summary This Senior Research Scientist I is a key role in our research team, responsible for the purification of new proteins to support various Protein Discovery research studies. This individual will utilize a range of techniques such as chromatography, electrophoresis, diafiltration, centrifugation and other techniques to isolate and purify proteins from complex mixtures for plasma-derived proteins and/or cell culture matrices for recombinant proteins. The individual will have extensive experience with 20+ years of hands-on training in the biopharmaceutical industry, specifically executing the purification of plasma-derived and bio-better proteins, as well as recombinant proteins. They will be expected to handle sample preparation, monitor the purification process, and verify the integrity and concentration of the proteins. Their work will be instrumental in ensuring the availability of high-quality proteins for our discovery research endeavors. In addition to protein purification, the individual will also conduct assays to characterize the purified proteins. They will perform various biochemical and biophysical assays to determine the proteins’ properties such as structure, function, interactions, and purity. These techniques may include, but not limited to, biochemical assays such as ELISA, western blotting, electrophoresis, and nephelometry. The ability to interpret assay results and present findings in a clear and concise manner is crucial. This role requires a strong background in protein biochemistry, excellent problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail. Primary responsibilities for role: Responsible for independently identifying actions required to support departmental objectives. Execute action plans independently, as part of a team, or as the lead for a departmental team. Independently prepares and edits procedures or technical reports of a complex nature, including data interpretation. Independently applies sound scientific principles in development of innovative solutions to complex technical problems. Capable of leading others in problem-solving efforts. Capable of mentoring/training junior staff in relevant principles and/or guidelines. Capable of serving as technical consultant within functional area. Independently designs, executes, and interprets results for novel and scientifically complex experiments. Capable of directing others in study execution. Additional Responsibilities Maintains laboratory facilities in accordance with company policies and industrial best practices. Provides support for research and developmental studies, clinical or commercial manufacturing as needed. Identifies, implements, and qualifies, as necessary, equipment to meet industrial best practices or achieve compliance with regulatory expectations.
