Albany, United States New York State Energy Research and Development Aut Full time

New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. The Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (Climate Act) has created the most aggressive climate change goals in the nation and requires an ambitious agenda that blends proven catalysts with innovative approaches while operating across a broader energy arena that is rapidly evolving. New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.

Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.

Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Job Overview

NYSERDA is seeking an Internal Communications Manager to help create and implement an internal communications strategy in support of thought leadership and programs that actively engage internal audiences on NYSERDA’s ongoing efforts to advance diversity, equity and inclusion among its workforce while also addressing climate change, advancing a carbon neutral economy, and creating healthier communities in support of New York State’s Climate Act. Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Manager translates business strategies into key messages, develop internal communications calendar in support of those strategies, and executes and drives messaging that helps create excitement, drive engagement, align teams and shape culture.

The ideal candidate will have proven ability to create and execute organizational messaging, strong writing and interpersonal skills, and a natural ability to think strategically while delivering measurable results. This role works with NYSERDA leadership, senior management and internal teams (including but not limited to Corporate Communications, Human Resources, Diversity Equity & Inclusion, Strategic Operations and Resiliency and Emergency Preparedness) to communicate new information and promote NYSERDA’s special strengths and values. This position is part of a fast-paced, dynamic team and requires a broad range of skills including speech writing, public relations, internal communications and change management. The ideal candidate will be able to foster strong collaborations at all levels of the Authority, building and maintaining a deep understanding and awareness of complex issues affecting NYSERDA and, therefore, its employees.

Primary Responsibilities

Work directly with the Chief of Staff within the Office of the President & CEO to develop and lead the implementation of the internal communications strategy for NYSERDA, including developing clear and concise messaging, communication channels, deadlines, and tactics.

Advise on, create and deliver internal communications content, along with content calendar, while working with key internal stakeholders to ensure that all communication is aligned with NYSERDA’s policies and programs and supports the Authority’s vision, mission culture and values.

Develop an in-depth understanding of NYSERDA’s policies, programs and organizational culture to proactively develop materials in a timely manner.

Establish tools to regularly monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications strategies, and make recommendations for improvement based on feedback and data analysis.

Identify opportunities to promote employee engagement and help foster a positive company culture.

Support crisis/emergency preparedness communications as needed, ensuring all employees receive timely information and direction during an emergency.

Collaborate with Executive Speechwriter on messaging and content.

Work closely with the Chief of Staff and organizational leadership as needed on managing sensitive issues, supporting collaborative efforts, and obtaining approvals as required.

Work jointly with other departments ensuring that all items meet the highest professional standards of accuracy, clarity and style. Liaise with internal departments including marketing, web and social media to ensure consistency of message.

Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills with an ability to meet multiple deadlines, make decisions and produce final products with speed, accuracy and strong judgment under pressure

Excellent organizational, project and time management skills with a respect for and commitment to meeting competing deadlines while managing multiple projects

Strong work ethic, resolute integrity, detail oriented with a commitment to delivering a high-quality and accurate work product

Ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders including executives, subject matter experts and colleagues both within NYSERDA and at other State agencies

Solid presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with a variety of audiences; ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in speech and in writing

Demonstrated proficiency with computers and software include Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Asana

Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or related field or experience directly working in a corporate or government communications or public relations department.
