The Safety Management Specialist plays a crucial role in executing, overseeing, and sustaining all safety protocols and initiatives within IES Communications. This position is vital for ensuring adherence to both internal safety policies and external regulatory standards at various project sites. The individual will be instrumental in developing and promoting health and safety programs aimed at mitigating workplace hazards and preventing injuries. EMT certification or higher credentials are highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Actively uphold all IES and project-specific safety policies, procedures, and regulations. 2. Guarantee the application and adherence to IES Safety Policies within the Communications Division and site-specific guidelines. 3. Create and deliver safety training sessions and presentations as necessary. 4. Conduct thorough jobsite safety audits to assess compliance with safety standards and regulations. 5. Manage activities related to confined space entry, including necessary documentation and training. 6. Identify potential hazards and formulate safety action plans to address compliance issues in collaboration with operations and management. 7. Develop strategies to minimize or eliminate workplace hazards and incidents. 8. Facilitate safety orientation for new employees, as well as OSHA training sessions as required. 9. Provide and coordinate safety training for management and field staff focused on accident prevention and compliance. 10. Prepare detailed reports summarizing safety audits, investigations, and findings. 11. Lead investigations into recordable incidents and near misses, utilizing root cause analysis to implement corrective measures. 12. Engage in OSHA inspection processes as outlined in the IES Safety Manual and effectively communicate with stakeholders. 13. Maintain comprehensive safety records and documentation. 14. Mentor and guide all stakeholders to foster a strong safety culture within IES. 15. Collaborate with site management on safety-related activities. 16. Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Must demonstrate self-motivation, a positive attitude, and professionalism to lead process improvements.
• Promote the company’s culture and mission to all stakeholders.
• Serve as the primary liaison for interactions with customers, vendors, and contractors.
• Exhibit strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, along with effective communication skills.
• Willingness to travel as required within designated territories.
• Possess the physical capability to perform inspections, including walking, climbing, and lifting.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and accurately identify codes, colors, and symbols.
• Maintain balance and agility in various physical tasks.
• Capable of learning and utilizing company and customer computer systems.
• Consistent and reliable attendance is essential.
Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
• EMT certification or higher credentials preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience in construction safety, ideally within telecommunications or electrical sectors.
• Familiarity with OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Safety and Health Regulations for Construction.
• Knowledge of Confined Space Entry Standards Subpart AA preferred.
• Current status as an Authorized OSHA OTI 500 Construction Outreach Trainer is a plus.
• CHST (Construction Health/Safety Technician) Certification or equivalent preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
• Proficient in MS Office applications (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint & Outlook).
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate with project stakeholders, including field personnel and management.
• Must be prepared to respond to safety emergencies as needed.
• Must meet company driving standards and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
