**Job Summary**:
The Director of Volunteer Engagement is both strategic and operational, leading a team of dedicated people who drive the volunteer experience, creating a strong foundation of engaged volunteers, providing for future growth in volunteerism and meaningful service.

To support an excellent volunteer experience, help build, implement, and provide training for the technology infrastructure for volunteers and the programs who hire them. Leveraging a cross-functional team rooted in engagement, digital technology and data analytics, the Director will make it possible for St. Vincent de Paul to provide a volunteer experience at the highest level of excellence. This work will encompass leadership and day-to-day operational responsibility for those who make up the Volunteer Engagement team.

**Specific Duties**:

- ** Strategy and Operations**
- Serve as the strategic and operational leader for a team of committed, enthusiastic, staff to provide the “Gold Standard” volunteer experience
- Partner with designated staff to ensure strategy, goals, and priorities align with the overall mission and vision of SVdP
- Produce a meaningful and memorable volunteer experience
- Assess, update, clarify, and implement clear procedures for recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, retention, and recognition of volunteers
- Develop, maintain, and oversee the Volunteer Engagement budget
- **
Team Management**
- Nurture and empower an exceptional team instilled with highly effective volunteer engagement and management capabilities
- Provide clarity of roles and responsibilities for the Volunteer Engagement team
- Responsible for hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, and recognizing staff
- Maintain open lines of communication and a healthy working environment among volunteers, staff members and SVdP departments
- **
Volunteer Experience and Appreciation**
- Work to ensure a “gold standard” volunteer experience
- Volunteer inquiries responded to within 24 hours
- Develop, implement, and maintain orientation, on-boarding, and training programs for volunteers and the SVdP staff who serve alongside them
- Provide meaningful and impactful experiences where volunteers understand they are appreciated and can see the impact of their work
- Experience joy, fun, fellowship, kindness, connection, purpose and belonging
- Ensure the Volunteer Engagement team offers a compassionate, welcoming, and grateful first impression of SVdP, that will encourage volunteers to become life-long partners
- Ensure sufficient seasonal opportunities are available to meet the increased number of volunteers of all ages
- Plan and coordinate volunteer appreciation events
- **
Data and Technology**
- Collaborate with members of the VE team, Innovation, Technology, Development, & Marketing teams, ensure efficient, relevant scheduling and check-in technology for staff and volunteers
- Collaborate with members of the VE team to develop, implement, and maintain a training process for all staff who utilize the volunteer technology
- Use data to analyze performance of volunteer experiences, develop strategies to build engagement of current volunteers, reengage previously active volunteers, and build a recruitment for new volunteers

SVdP Ambassador**
- Participate in and/or lead tours and participate in philanthropy efforts
- Represent SVdP at relevant events, presentations, community-based meetings, or engagements as assigned

**Critical Connection**
- Serve as liaison to programs/teams who utilize volunteers to meet the needs of the organization.
- Provide training to staff/teams who employ volunteers
- Work to understand and clarify needs for volunteers, special requests, and event support
- Ensure ongoing availability of motivated volunteers to meet departmental needs
- Assess and provide feedback to staff/teams who employ volunteers, continually looking for ways to improve communication and enhance the volunteer experience
- Work in collaboration with the Sr. Leadership Team
- Create and nurture a strong partnership with Vincentian Engagement Services to recruit Vincentians to support and enhance the SVdP paid staff.
- Coordinate with the Development and Community Engagement teams to expand volunteer philanthropy and expand “Culture of Philanthropy” within Volunteer Engagement
- Some evening, weekend and holiday work expected
- Performs any other duties assigned by Chief Engagement Officer
- Participate in and serve as a model for SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy, and ensure SVdP volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated *
