Correctional Programs Supervisor

**Description of Work**:
Reporting to the Correctional Programs Director, this position will provide programs for the rehabilitation of offenders in the prison system. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Supervising the case management responsibilities of subordinate staff.
- Developing, implementing, and maintaining one or more major and/or broad programs for offenders. The primary programs areas are offender classification, correctional programs including incentive wage, adult basic education, volunteer programs, religion, and recreation, in addition to supportive counseling.
- Working one evening per week monitoring offender programs on a rotating basis.
- Working with community agencies to enrich programs, coordinating program activities with custody staff, and monitoring the effectiveness of community volunteer workers assigned to programs activities.
- Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive.
- Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area.
- Preparing written reports and forms reflecting accurate information reviewed from various sources.
- Operating various office machines accurately.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

About the NC Dept. of Adult Correction (DAC):
The Dept. of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision. Other divisions include Administration, Compliance and Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs and Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation and Reentry.
About Columbus Correctional Institution:
Columbus Correctional Institution is located in Whiteville, North Carolina and houses up to 698 male offenders in a medium custody facility.
**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies**:
- Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques
- Knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs
**Minimum Education and Experience Requirements**:
Bachelor's degree in a human services or criminal justice field from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of experience in corrections or related work

An equivalent combination of education and experience.
**Necessary Special Qualifications**:
**MUST** be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
