**DESCRIPTION**:
The UCSD Mathematics Department is a dynamic unit with 67 faculty and approximately 30+ additional non-FTEs in various instructional and research titles. These academics work on a broad range of research funded from a diverse range of federal, state and private agencies. The department is comprised of 28 career staff, and 190 Masters and Ph.D. students and 25 CSME students. All working together to generate high caliber research in a broad range of fields and provides an outstanding graduate program that attracts top-ranked students who contribute to the department’s academic reputation. The department maintains a large undergraduate course of study that prepares pure and applied majors (over 2400) in Mathematics, as well as 57 other majors across the campus, with the strong fundamental background in mathematics needed to succeed in a variety of career options. The faculty are engaged in a vigorous research program with an average of 72 active awards in many interdisciplinary areas totaling approximately $22M/Yr. and an instructional program that enrolls approximately 40,000 graduates and undergraduates per year. As the fundamental language of science, Mathematics is an essential intellectual tool required by a trained workforce to create the technological advances of the future.

Located within the Department of Mathematics, the Math Testing and Placement unit provides Math diagnostic testing for the entire UC San Diego campus.

The Math Academic Success Center (ASC) is tutoring center needed to support students enrolled in self-paced/self-study Math 2 course starting Fall 2024. The expected number of students, based on AY23-24 math placement results is 700 - 900 first year students.

Uses skills as a seasoned and experienced administrative operations professional to manage, plan and administer the operations of a small to mid-sized academic or non-academic department or organizational unit with limited scope. May report to a chair, director, or a higher level administrative operations professional or manager. Perform short
- and long-term planning for the organization. May supervise staff or students. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Reporting to the Faculty Director and Chief Administrative Officer, this position will oversee operations of both Math Testing and Placement (MTP) and the creation/implementation of the Academic Success Center (ASC) within the Department of Mathematics. Work direction of staff may be required. This position will have a dotted line to the VC-Educational Innovation (EI) and collaborate closely with that office as well as the Teaching and Learning Commons.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
- Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills. Skill to compose, edit, and proofread reports, notices, and correspondence to other campus offices, and off-campus using an effective style, proper grammar, and punctuation. Ability to express verbally one’s position, plan of action, evaluation, or interpretation in a professional, concise, and courteous manner.
- Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
