JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Includes preparing the patient to see Attending Physician ( medical history, & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, and cleaning
- Records the ophthalmic history of the patient.
- Performs the preliminary assessment and recording of visual acuity, color vision testing, schirmer testing, visual field exams, ocular motility, pupil assessment and refraction.
- Assists with eye photography.
- Performs Humphrey visual testing and assists with fundus photography.
- Assumes responsibility for the maintenance and care of the equipment and surgical instruments.
- Ensures adequate levels of supplies.
- Serves as a resource to new staff.
- Conducts specific tests and assists in the diagnostic evaluation of ophthalmic patients.
- Impacts the care received by ophthalmic patients

Other duties as assigned.

**Education**

**Required**: High school diploma or equivalent.

**Experience**

**Required**: Two years related experience.

**License/Certifications**

All of the following: Certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) from the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
