Under the direction of the Payroll & Risk Management Bureau Chief (SSM III), the Staff Services Manager II oversees the PBS and is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the activities of the Section.

The PBS performs payroll transactions and benefits functions, including processing employee appointments, separations, leave accounting, workers' compensation, and disability payroll and benefits, in compliance with California labor laws and regulations, bargaining unit contracts, departmental policies and procedures, and control agency directives. This position oversees the Payroll & Benefits Section that is responsible for the accurate and timely payroll and benefits processing for approximately 5,500 employees.

Working Conditions

This position is telework eligible and works Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The ability to use a personal computer and telephone is essential. The position requires bending and stooping to retrieve files, walking, and occasional light lifting of up to 10-15 lbs.

This position is in downtown Sacramento at CDSS' headquarters building, on the 15th floor, in the Human Resource Services Branch. We are two blocks from the light rail and other public transportation. The State Capitol, Golden 1 Arena, various parks, restaurants, and farmer's markets are within walking distance. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80. Available parking includes metered street parking (hourly and daily rate) and private and city-owned garages and lots.
