**JOB SUMMARY**: The Harm Reduction Community Organizer manages outreach, education, and harm reduction advocacy efforts with QTBIPOC youth in the South Sacramento area. This position will organize and engage QTBIPOC youth in education sessions, training in harm reduction, and working to establish better coping mechanisms and experience increase confidence. Work with engaged youth to become trusted messengers of substance use information. This position will help to create and maintain a community drop-in space and engage with youth of varying backgrounds working to build resilience networks in the community. This position will help QTBIPOC youth participating in developmental activities in a local LGBTQ+ space feel a sense of interconnectedness between their racial identity, sexual orientation, and geographic neighborhood.

**ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**:
1. Participant and systems change advocacy.

2. Youth empowerment and harm reduction program coordination.

3. Community outreach and engagement.

**Participant and Systems Change**:
2. Conduct outreach with local community partners to engage local QTBIPOC youth.

3. Conduct training for local youth regarding the impact of the War on Drugs and systems change.

**Youth Empowerment**:
1. Conduct educational workshops with youth on the War on Drugs to help empower them to become change makers in their community.

2. Organize listening sessions where youth establish community harm reduction needs and ways to address them.

3. Build youth understanding of community resilience strategies and empower their advocacy in their communities.

4. Work with youth to develop relevant substance use prevention activities such as trainings and workshops.

5. Organize youth involved in the creation of Elevate South SaQ’s program model to establish better coping mechanisms and experience increased confidence.

6. Conduct annual listening sessions with youth leaders to establish the impact engagement had on coping mechanisms and confidence.

7. Work with youth to develop social media campaigns that raise awareness and combat stigma around harm reduction, substance use, and the intersection with the LGBTQ+ community.

**Community Outreach**:
1. Conduct outreach and train volunteers to do outreach at community events with an emphasis on the South Sacramento area, cultural events, schools, and faith communities.

2. Engage with schools, faith-based leaders, and cultural groups to educate and create brave spaces for LGBTQ+ youth of color through development of educational workshops and trainings.

3. Work with youth to host large scale community events to raise awareness around harm reduction and help address community needs.

4. Engage community media partners.

**GENERAL DUTIES**:
1. Draft progress reports on grant deliverables.

2. Coordinate meetings, activities, workshops relevant to the program.

3. Participate in staff meetings, department meetings.

4. Administer pre
- and post-tests to measure knowledge of targeted substance
- use campaigns, impact of harm reduction activities, and sense of belonging and connectedness at the intersections of race, sexual orientation, and place of living.

5. Help conduct trauma-informed client intakes measuring risk behaviors. Conduct follow-up assessments to measure engagement in harm reduction strategies.

6. Conduct data entry to measure number of participants in drop-in space.

7. Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE**:
1. Knowledge and understanding of the issues, needs, and interests of LGBTQIA2S+ youth, families and community, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender and sexual identities and transgender issues.

2. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking, facilitation, and coalition building capabilities to balance interests, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

3. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in an intersectional environment.

4. Expertise in the area of LGBTQ identities, the intersectionality of gender, race, sexuality, age, and substance use.

5. Understanding of the impact of the War on Drugs and lasting effects on communities as a driver of substance use; this can include lived experience or academic study.

6. Understanding of grant project activity development
