COMPENSATION:     $22-23 per hour DOE

LOCATION:                Sacramento, CA (This position is not eligible for remote work.)

AVAILABILITY:           Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Schedule subject to change.

JOB SUMMARY:

This position supports the health and wellness of LGBTQIA+ community members, with a focus on Latinx, Spanish-speaking, Transgender, and immigrant/refugee populations. They support programs that improve mental health outcomes including reducing the risk of suicide, hospitalization, or incarceration including community resource navigation, mental health respite for youth and adults, and support groups. They provide Spanish language translation for clients accessing services at the Center and for materials distributed by the agency. They build and maintain working relationships with culturally affirming service providers and conduct outreach activities that raise awareness of Latinx LGBTQIA+ equity and social justice issues, organize support for these communities, and increasing access to Spanish language and culturally affirming programs and services,

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1.     Client advocacy, support, and harm reduction

2.     Program implementation, documentation and compliance

3.     Community outreach and engagement

Client Advocacy, Support, and Harm Reduction:

1.     Provided community members with a safe and affirming space to deescalate their mental health or other crisis conditions.

2.     Partner with the Community Resources Coordinator and Youth Advocates to provide respite clients with services in Spanish.

3.     Complete intake for the youth and adult respite drop-in centers and determine eligibility for Center’s housing programs. 

4.     Support community members with developing an action plans, accessing personal and community support to reach identified goals and building skills that support making positive life choices regarding their own health and well-being. 

5.     Assist with daily client support services tasks such as coordinating showers, distributing clothing and supplies, helping youth use the washer/dryer and providing food/drinks. 

6.     Facilitate youth and adult support groups in collaboration with other staff and volunteers.

7.     Maintain healthy boundaries with community members who are experiencing homelessness, substance use disorders, sexual/physical assault, bullying, and mental health crisis. 

Support Program Implementation, Documentation, and Compliance:

1.     Accurately and completely record client profile information, all services provided to clients, and client progress/successes in the client data systems on a daily basis per agency guidelines.

2.     Provide regular written program progress reports, grant deliverable reports, and other data and program evaluation reports as directed by supervisors.

3.     Build and maintain a robust referral database of organizations that provide Spanish-language, immigrant/refugee, Latinx, and LGBTQIA+ culturally affirming services.

4.     Cultivate partnerships with service providers in the greater Sacramento area to increase the Center’s capacity to serve the Latinx community.

5.     Coordinate meetings, activities, workshops relevant to the program.

Community Outreach and Engagement:

1.     Serve as a representative of the organization in Spanish-speaking collaborative partner networks and at related community events and activities as directed.

2.     Serve as lead Center liaison with Latinx, Spanish-speaking, and immigrant/refugee LGBTQIA+ community, engaging with parents, families, social service providers, cultural organizations, and faith communities to educate and create brave spaces for the Latinx LGBTQIA+ community.

3.     Research, design, and cultivate a marketing strategy to highlight the Spanish-speaking services offered by the Center in collaboration with Communications & Marketing Manager.

4.     Translate agency collateral materials and outreach information into Spanish.

5.     Conduct outreach and train volunteers to do outreach at community events, cultural events, schools, and faith communities, with an emphasis on events targeting monolingual Spanish speakers and Latinx communities.

6.     Collaborate with Advocacy & Training staff to ensure training materials are accessible to Spanish-speaking and immigrant communities.

General Duties:

1.     Functions as an essential member of the Program Team, splitting time between Youth & Family Services and Health Services departments.

2.     Staff and support events for the Center.

3.     Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, and other meetings as required.

4.     Collaborate with program, development, and operations staff to maximize the reach of Center programs and advocacy efforts.

5.     Cultivate, train, and supervise interns and volunteers that support programs.

6.     Handle a variety of special projects and other related duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

1.     Knowledge and understanding of the issues, needs, and interests of LGBTQIA2S+ youth, including a thorough understanding of the intersections of race and the spectrum of gender and sexual identities.

2.     Experience working with queer and transgender Black, Indigenous, and other youth of color experiencing homelessness, undocumented community members and asylum seekers, people living with HIV/AIDS, people with mental health and addiction issues, non-native English speakers, having modeled a client-centered approach is critical.

3.     Existing relationships with service providers, advocates, and stakeholders engaged with LGBTQIA+ Latinx, immigrant/refugee communities. 

4.     Working knowledge of community resources as they relate to mental health, crime victim services, homelessness, and youth. 

5.     Coalition building capabilities to balance interests, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.  

6.     Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; public speaking and facilitation.

7.     Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

8.     Understanding of grant management including activity design and data collection to ensure contract deliverables.  

9.     Knowledge of Trauma Informed Service Model and client-centered approach and a commitment to maintain strict confidentiality with client and organizational information.  

10.  Demonstrated experience with case management, counseling, housing, employment, immigration issues, or other direct social service provision. 

REQUIREMENTS:

1.     Passion for the Center’s mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization.

2.     Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Education: Bachelor’s degree in a social services or a relevant field. Two years of directly related work experience may be substituted for formal education. 

3.     Language Skills: Ability to speak, read, write, and translate in English and Spanish is required.  

4.     Flexible availability to work occasional evenings and weekend hours as needed. 

5.     Certifications Required: If not already certified the candidate must receive and pass the CPR/First Aid within the first three months of employment. 

6.     Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Superior proficiency working with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and Teams. Experience working with client database systems and social media tools is helpful.

7.     Transportation: Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable automobile transportation with proof of valid insurance. This position will be required to drive to outreach events throughout the Sacramento region.

8.     Physical Demands:  The person in this position will be required to operate office equipment, open and close filing cabinets, closets, and boxes, observe visitors, and communicate messages by telephone and Teams.

10.  Employees must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
