The on-duty dispatcher is responsible for monitoring field personnel and dispatching the appropriate level of service unit to respond to the scene in a safe and appropriate time frame. Dispatchers will also be expected to make phone calls to update, inform, and facilitate customers and clients. *Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*
- Receive and prioritize incoming telephone calls.
- Efficiently dispatch the appropriate units to both emergency and non-emergency calls in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates the ability to make accurate and efficient decision making regarding the dispatch of emergency and non-emergency units.
- Obtains required information from party requesting medical transport (as set forth by communications supervisor).
- Ability to verify insurance type/coverage and obtain authorization for transportation as needed.
- Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate emergency and non-emergency calls to appropriate personnel.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively use CAD system, paging system, cell phones, land lines, and all portable or mounted radios.
- Assist in the elimination of delays in order to keep patient transportation a seamless process.
- Troubleshoots equipment or mechanical problems and contacts dispatch supervisor, communication supervisor, and Director of Operations.
- Monitor field personnel, call status, and progression of calls.
- Follows all policies and procedures as outlined by the company and/or governmental regulations and according to HIPAA regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. *Minimum Qualifications:* *Education/Licensing/Certification:*
- Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Bachelor’s degree *Experience:*
- 1 year of Dispatch or EMS experience *Knowledge and Skills:*
- Ability to work efficiently, accurately and with minimum supervision.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service
- Ability to demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read and write in English.
- Possess fast and accurate typing skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Ability to properly utilize CAD (computer aided dispatch) software
- Ability to operate and communicate clearly on the radio and telephone
- Ability to document, transmit, and report information accurately
- Ability to efficiently utilize all equipment assigned to him/her
- Ability to manage multiple task simultaneously
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment *Physical Requirements:*
