**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Essential Job Functions**: Provides management and leadership direction including program development, management and operational oversight of the City’s parks, trails, open spaces and park facilities. Physically inspects all properties, buildings, restroom facilities, medians and right-of-ways maintained by the department for condition, progress and completion; plans methods and sequence of operations with the Director to optimize the quality of landscape maintenance; schedules, trains, and assigns work tasks to subordinate personnel; performs various personnel-related activities such as: interviewing, evaluating, counseling, and recommending disciplinary actions; plans, schedules, and conducts safety programs and meetings; inspects and observes work sites for compliance with safety policies, procedures and regulations; investigates accidents, writes reports and submits data to the Safety Coordinator; prepares reports, documents supervisory activities, and complete forms as required by the department; manages and reviews project plans, designs, and specifications; coordinates the development and implementation of landscape plans from review to completion; possess excellent organizational skills and time management skills; performs and demands quality work; experienced in tree trimming and pruning, preparing planter beds, knowledge of the proper fertilizer to apply, irrigation system knowledge (operation and maintenance), choosing the correct seasonal plants for beautification beds, and experience in promoting grass growth; directs implementation and monitors preventive maintenance programs for fleet equipment; maintains inventories of fuel, tools, chemicals, and horticultural supplies; researches and resolves citizen complaints and inquiries; coordinates departmental activities with other departments and contractors on joint projects; manages the department in the absence of the Department Director.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare clear and concise written reports and records; ability to operate personal computer, calculator, and vehicle; ability to communicate with the public; ability to make independent decisions; ability to prepare and administer a departmental budget; ability to determine necessary facility repairs or maintenance and order necessary materials; ability to supervise office and field staff; ability to assess landscaping needs and designs; ability to form effective working relationships with employees, citizens and officials.
**Physical Requirements**: Constantly sees, hears, walks, and sits. Frequently operates a personal computer, kneels, sorts, writes by hand and drives. Carries objects weighing up to 50 lbs., drives, pulls and/or pushes objects weighing up to 50 lbs., squats, stoops. Infrequently sorts, lifts, twist body or pull objects.
**Education/Experience**: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Parks Administration or related field and minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the job. Minimum five (5) years in the maintenance of landscaped building sites preferred.
