The Social Media Specialist will develop and execute engaging social media strategies on behalf of the Purple Line, a new light rail system connecting the communities of Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, MD. The Purple Line, scheduled to open for service in winter of 2027, is aimed at creating new transit equity opportunities for the state of Maryland and beyond. **The position will be required to be full time in the project office in Riverdale MD.**

**Job Requirements**:

- A proven record of elevating brands, a visual accomplishment portfolio and a passion for promoting customer engagement and brand awareness.
- Ability to assess and recommend strategies to optimize project social profiles, write engaging and accurate post copy, develop stories as well as analyze social data and make recommendations to leadership to help elevate the project’s social reputation.
- Collaborate with other team members, from a digital perspective, in monitoring and managing project brand reputation, coordinating needed actions as directed by the Director of Communications and Outreach.

**Responsibilities**:

- Create content for multiple platforms, content that fits and resonates for each platform based on trending content e.g. video, gif, infographics, etc.
- Monitor social analytics and report to leadership on what is working (or not working) across channels with recommendations on how to improve engagement and follower count.
- Devise social network strategies, including creation and management of the project’s content calendar at least 3 months out.
- Schedule social posts based on data showing ideal posting days and times utilizing the project’s Hootsuite account.
- Identify relevant, curated content and recommend new social content ideas to leadership to grow the platforms.
- Engage with the project’s audiences including comments and reposts, likes as well as follows to relevant profiles. The specialist must have discernment in the realm of social media to spot potential urgent concerns, reporting to team members who can assess and manage any media or public relations issues.
- Ability to collaborate with Communications Partners closely and regularly on construction updates to align posts alerting the public on pedestrian and vehicle impacts.
- Experience with graphic design tools to create and edit simple text cards and graphics for social posts. Will work closely with the Copywriting and Content Development Specialist to align external-facing products such as website, newsletter, community and business outreach collateral to social platforms.
- A willing and positive team spirit to jump in where needed, proactively share expertise and suggestions, working to help elevate the work of fellow team members in community outreach and business engagement, looking for creative ways to reflect these outreach efforts to elevate and grow social platforms.
- Discernment and professionalism in working with high level government agency and elected officials and their social media teams.
