Elementary Education Support Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Elementary Education Support Specialist provides assistance to K-5 students under the professional guidance and supervision of teachers within the district. This role involves working with children either individually or in small groups, delivering basic instruction tailored to the developmental needs of the students. Additionally, this position supports teachers in various settings and activities to ensure the effective operation of educational programs. This position reports to the Principal or their designee.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts small group or individual classroom activities with students based on lesson plans created by the teacher.
- Assists in preparing instructional materials (including copying, bulletin board construction, grading assignments, etc.).
- Types and processes correspondence, reports, orders, and catalog cards.
- Operates the computerized circulation system and maintains records.
- Files catalog cards, vertical file materials, and order cards.
- Aids in the inventory of materials and equipment.
- Takes responsibility for the operation of the media center and supervises students in the absence of the media specialist.
- Assists with routine record keeping and housekeeping tasks; helps with school-wide supervision, such as loading and unloading buses.
- Performs all other duties as assigned to fulfill the above responsibilities.
KEY JOB REQUIREMENTS:
One of the following qualifications must be met:
- Possess an associate's degree or higher in any field from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, OR
- Have completed two (2) years of college coursework (sixty [60] semester hours) above the remedial level with a grade of "C" or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution, OR
- Have successfully passed the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment and hold a minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
Must be able to make recommendations or decisions that typically impact the classroom environment.
Must hold or be eligible for a GaPSC-issued Paraprofessional License, with eligibility based on the educational requirements outlined above. Note: The Certification Team will apply for the Paraprofessional License upon hire.
