- CDSS is seeking an experienced administrator to lead our interpretation and communication access teams. Under the guidance of the Staff Services Manager III (Bureau Chief), the Interpretation and Communication Access Section Chief (Staff Services Manager (SSM II)) will oversee the work of our Interpretation and Communication Access Units. The SSM II will also be responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving policies and processes to ensure the effective operation of the Department's language and communication access services functions, which play a central role in fulfilling the Department's mission of delivering equitable, efficient, and effective services to California's population. Additionally, they will coordinate CARE Branch administrative functions.

The California Department of Social Services (CDSS) serves, aids and protects needy and vulnerable children and adults in ways that strengthen and preserve families, encourage personal responsibility and foster independence. - The mission of the Civil Rights, Accessibility, and Resource Equity (CARE) Branch is to provide state level leadership and direction to ensure compliance with civil rights laws and to promote and foster policies and practices that ensure equitable access in alignment with the Department's equity goals. The Interpretation and Communication Access Section (ICAS) facilitates access to critical information and programs for people with disabilities, people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, or low vision, and people who speak a primary language other than English. The ICAS is responsible for the coordination and administration of communication access services (e.g., American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken language interpretation and captioning) contracts; providing and facilitating equal communication access for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, and people who speak a primary language other than English.
