About the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology:

The College of Computing has been a leader in defining modern computing as a paradigm that combines the foundations of theoretical mathematics and information science, the force of invention in computational systems and processes, and interdisciplinary practice that integrates innovation in computing with all facets of life. About the School of Cybersecurity and Privacy (SCP) the College of Computing at the Georgia Institute of Technology:

The School of Cybersecurity and Privacy, one of five schools in the top ten ranked College of Computing, was formed in September 2020. It builds on the strong foundation and continued success of the cybersecurity research, education, and service efforts at Georgia Tech that began more than twenty years ago.

We are home to graduate students working to complete their master's or Ph.D. programs from multiple disciplines at Georgia Tech. With the rise of regularly occurring cyberattacks and data breaches, the demand for innovative research and education in the field of cybersecurity and privacy is greater than ever.

Job Summary The CPSec (Cyber-Physical Security) research group in the School of Cybersecurity and Privacy (SCP) at Georgia Tech is looking for a Research Scientist to conduct research on cybersecurity of critical infrastructures. Our activities and research are focused on the cyber security solution development for critical infrastructures such as power grids and manufacturing platforms. This is a fascinating area to be involved with, and for a talented researcher, an opportunity to join our community and use your passion, research, and skills to make a genuine difference.

The Research Scientist will join the lab and conduct research in cyber forensics and computer system security, with key applications in the vetting of untrusted/malicious software and the security of IoT/mobile/cyber-physical systems. The position was written into the grant, and this provided confidence to the peer-reviewers and the DARPA program officers that the project team would be properly equipped to address the goals of the project. DARPA grants include annual reviews by the program officers at which time the progress against the goals and aims of the project is reviewed.

Required Qualifications This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Final job offer will be dependent on candidate qualifications in alignment with Research Faculty ranks as outlined in section 3.2.1 of the Georgia Tech Faculty Handbook

Research Scientist I:
  • Bachelor's Degree
Research Scientist II:
  • A Master's degree and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
  • A Master's degree and five (5) years of relevant fulltime experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
  • A Doctoral degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Doctoral degree.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders including students, faculty, employers, and alumni.
  • Expertise and research experience in systems security.
  • Excellence in interpersonal, oral, and written communication, including the ability to deliver engaging presentations to small and large groups both in person and virtually.
  • Ability to develop appropriate, welcoming, and productive relationships with a student and employer population.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with college constituents and the community.
  • Ability to promote a welcoming educational/work environment.
  • Ability to mentor and assist students interested in pursuing graduate education.
  • Ability to engage students in experiential learning activities and pedagogy that support student success.
  • Ability to engage in high-impact practices that support deep learning for student success.
