The BASIS Independent Silicon Valley Upper School Campus is seeking qualified applicants for a part time Business Teacher and DECA Advisor for the upcoming school year

What We're Looking For

In this teaching position, you would teach one high school Introduction to Business Elective and co-advise the school’s DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) chapter.  DECA prepares students for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management, and this opening provides an opportunity to be a part of advising a DECA Chapter that has historically achieved remarkable success in regional and national competitions. 

Your Primary Responsibilities
• Teach an Introduction to Business course to students in preparation for their participation in the school’s DECA Chapter.
• Attend and participate in weekly DECA meetings after school and occasional local and travel competitions in support of our students’ success.
• Implement the CTE Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to display your passion for the subject and educate students at an internationally competitive level.
• Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum Teachers to form a community of smart, talented and interesting people who are passionate about their work and readily willing to work in a professional and academic environment.
• Guide student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect and individuality in all students.

Essential Teacher Qualifications:
• Must have a CTE credential or Single Subject Credential (or be able to prove that you are enrolled in a program and working towards this certification) in one of the following approved areas:  Business and Finance, Marketing, Sales, and Services; Hospitality and Tourism or a Single Subject Credential in Business or Home Economics
• Have deep knowledge of and passion for subject taught
• Able to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students
• Has strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents
• Open to feedback and continuous growth
• Creative in instructional and classroom management strategies (high warm and high firm)
• Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, flexible
• Has a strong work ethic and a "do whatever it takes" mindset

Additional Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a CTE credential or Single Subject Credential (or be able to prove that you are enrolled in a program and working towards this certification) in one of the following approved areas:  Business and Finance, Marketing, Sales, and Services; Hospitality and Tourism or a Single Subject Credential in Business or Home Economics. Coursework or experience in education is not required, nor is certification. Candidates must have the ability to obtain fingerprint clearance.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in teaching Business Courses or working with DECA organization is preferred but not required.
