Taper provides energy and refrigerant management solutions to large commercial customers by brokering multi-site projects between utility funded incentive programs, installation partners, and equipment vendors. Taper is a wholly owned B-Corp subsidiary of Ecology Action, its nonprofit and single shareholder.
What is the Role?
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Construction Services to oversee all construction operations, ranging from energy retrofits and refrigerant management projects to electric vehicle charging infrastructure. This role is essential for providing strategic leadership and ensuring projects meet industry regulations and standards from inception through completion. Your strategic leadership will ensure that we deliver high-quality, safe projects that drive operational efficiency and financial success.

We are looking for a visionary leader with a passion for sustainable construction and a proven track record of delivering large and complex projects. The ideal candidate will have senior leadership experience within the construction industry and be a general contractor. You should be committed to sustainable and ethical sourcing practices and have the ability to foster a positive and inclusive work culture.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement strategic plans for efficient construction project delivery.
- Foster collaboration with project teams to ensure successful outcomes.
- Represent the construction function on the executive team and provide technical training to support organizational goals.
- Construction Oversight:
- Oversee construction project management, including surveying, budgeting, scheduling, and quality control.
- Monitor project progress and address any issues to ensure timely completion and adherence to objectives.
- Partner in the design and implementation of construction management systems.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate potential risks related to construction projects.
- Diversify the supplier base in partnership with Vendor Relations to manage external risks and ensure universal understanding of potential risks and mitigations.
- Compliance Management:
- Develop and implement company-wide construction policies and procedures to standardize operations and ensure compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.
- Oversee Responsible Managing Employee(s) and ensure compliance with state licensing requirements.
- Financial Management:
- Analyze and approve construction budgets, financial reports, and forecasts.
- Implement cost control measures and identify opportunities for cost savings.
- Monitor potential cost overruns and develop strategies to maintain budget adherence.
- Client and Stakeholder Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
- Align project delivery with organizational goals and prioritize client success.
- Attend trade shows and conferences to support Taper and expand organizational competencies.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Implement and enforce quality assurance processes and standards.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, codes, and industry standards.
- Promote safe projects for team members, clients, and the public.
- Team Management & Development:
- Recruit, lead, mentor, and train assigned staff.
- Monitor and evaluate team performance, providing constructive feedback and recognition.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and diversity.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 15 years' related experience and a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, business management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proven track record of successfully delivering large and complex projects.
- Senior leadership experience within the construction industry.
- Active General Contractor license.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with construction management software and other relevant technologies.
- Leadership experience with building electrification and/or transportation electrification.
- Commitment to sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.
- Knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Experience overseeing a multi-state Responsible Managing Employee with a proven understanding of state licensing requirements.

Work Environment:
