Job Description:

Reporting to the Chair for Biomedical Sciences, this role will provide curricular development and support, specifically in the Medical Education Track.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain educational materials
  • Organize and streamline the process of creating a class session
  • Author or assemble clinical cases and board-style questions
  • Demonstrate professionalism as defined by the KansasCOM declaration of faculty professionalism and responsibility
  • Foster a positive culture amongst students, faculty and KHSU-KansasCOM staff
  • Assist in accreditation, assessment, and quality improvement to include document creation, data collection and management, and education of faculty as assigned
  • Serve as requested in academic leadership roles
  • Serve as a student advisor and mentor, as assigned
  • Participate in interviewing prospective students
  • Assist in student testing, re-testing, and remediation as necessary
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATION(S):

  • A terminal degree (PhD, DSc, DO, MD, etc.) in a basic science field from an accredited institution of higher education with appropriate experience for an Assistant Professor (or higher)
  • A track record of academic experience in biomedical sciences education
  • Preference that the applicant be qualified to work in the United States without sponsorship, however, the College will consider immigration sponsorship for highly qualified candidates
  • Maintain appropriate licensure for practice in health care and be in good standing with all regulatory and licensing boards and agencies, as applicable
  • Be detailed oriented and have excellent interpersonal skills
  • Have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products and the desire and ability to learn software for course management and third-party learning resources.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Additional training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation
  • A record of success as a medical educator
  • Experience using innovative teaching methods, which might include team-based learning, “flipped classroom”, problem-based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems and curriculum delivery systems
  • Experience with curricular and instructional design
  • Record of scholarly activity

  • Ability to work both individually and collaboratively within a dynamic, inter-disciplinary environment
  • Leadership abilities in influencing and shaping performance
  • Self-directed synthesis of multiple information sources
  • Strong, effective, and diplomatic oral communication skills
