Position Overview:

The Kansas Health Science University (KHSU) is seeking applications for a faculty role within the Department of Integrated Biomedical Sciences. We are looking for qualified individuals with a strong background in teaching medical students, particularly in the areas of pathology and pathophysiology. This open rank faculty position offers flexibility in terms of appointment type (full-time or part-time) and may include options for remote instruction for candidates demonstrating exceptional teaching capabilities.

The mission of KHSU is to cultivate the osteopathic physician of the future, focusing on delivering effective, compassionate, and innovative healthcare to enhance the well-being of patients and their communities. Our goal includes expanding health education and increasing the number of physicians trained in Kansas, especially in underserved rural areas. KHSU's innovative curriculum integrates various disciplines and employs interactive teaching methodologies, fostering an inclusive environment that promotes student engagement in high-quality, patient-centered care.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in pathology or a related field, along with demonstrated teaching experience. The role involves collaboration with a team of educators to develop and deliver integrated pathology content within the educational program. Responsibilities include teaching medical students in the first and second academic years, as well as developing integrated curricular elements. Opportunities for additional teaching and mentoring in the third and fourth years may also be available, focusing on applying foundational science knowledge to advanced medical students.

While teaching is the primary focus, faculty members are also expected to engage in service, scholarship, and research activities. Contributions to the College and community are vital, including participation in committees, faculty development, student mentoring, and outreach initiatives. KHSU is committed to enhancing scholarly activities across various domains, including basic science, translational research, clinical education, and public health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction in pathology primarily within the pre-clinical curriculum, with potential opportunities in later years.
  • Create and refine educational materials, including presentations and assessments.
  • Maintain educational resources that align with Osteopathic Principles and Practice.
  • Exhibit professionalism as outlined by KHSU's faculty standards.
  • Advise and mentor students, fostering research initiatives.
  • Participate in student recruitment and career guidance.
  • Engage in departmental and college committees and task forces.
  • Contribute to professional development initiatives.
  • Assist in accreditation and quality improvement efforts, including documentation and data management.
  • Promote a positive culture among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Engage in professional organizations to enhance institutional reputation.
  • Assume academic leadership roles as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree (PhD, DSc, DO, MD, etc.) in pathology, pathophysiology, or a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience in biomedical sciences education, preferably in a medical school setting.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and good standing with relevant regulatory bodies.
  • Proficiency in technology applied to educational settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Postdoctoral experience in Pathology (residency, fellowship, etc.).
  • Training in educational theory and evaluation.
  • Proven success as a medical educator.
  • Experience with innovative teaching methodologies, including team-based learning and distance education.
  • Background in curricular and instructional design.
  • Record of scholarly contributions.
