Anatomy Education Specialist

The Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine (KansasCOM) is seeking applications for a faculty role within the Department of Integrated Biomedical Sciences. This open rank position is aimed at individuals with a strong background in teaching anatomy to medical students, with no clinical responsibilities attached.
The mission of the College is to cultivate the osteopathic physician of the future, emphasizing effective, compassionate, and innovative patient care. This mission also includes a commitment to enhancing health education and increasing the number of physicians trained in Kansas, particularly focusing on rural communities. KansasCOM has established a systems-based curriculum that promotes interdisciplinary integration and employs interactive teaching methodologies.
The ideal candidate will hold a terminal degree (PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent) in anatomy or a closely related field, with proven experience in teaching these subjects. The faculty member will collaborate with a team of educators to develop and deliver anatomy content across the integrated curriculum for the first and second academic years. Responsibilities will include the creation of discipline-specific, collaboratively designed curricular elements and instructional materials.
While teaching is the primary focus, the role also encompasses service, scholarship, and research. Faculty members are expected to engage in community service, student mentoring, and participation in various committees. The College is committed to enhancing scholarly activities across a broad spectrum, including basic science, clinical, educational, and public health research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver anatomy instruction primarily within the pre-clinical curriculum.
- Create and refine educational materials, including presentations and assessments.
- Maintain educational resources that align with Osteopathic Principles and Practice.
- Exhibit professionalism as outlined by the College's standards.
- Act as a mentor and advisor to students, fostering research initiatives.
- Participate in the interviewing process for prospective students.
- Contribute to departmental and college committees.
- Engage in professional development activities for KansasCOM.
- Assist with accreditation and quality improvement efforts.
- Promote a positive and inclusive culture among students and staff.
- Participate in professional organizations to enhance institutional recognition.
- Take on academic leadership roles as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A terminal degree (PhD, DSc, DO, MD, etc.) in anatomy or a relevant field from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated academic experience in biomedical sciences education, preferably in a medical school setting.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship is preferred, although the College may consider sponsorship for exceptional candidates.
- Maintain appropriate licensure for healthcare practice.
- Proficiency in technology relevant to educational settings.
- Commitment to supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral experience in anatomy.
- Training in educational theory or evaluation.
- Proven success as a medical educator.
- Experience with innovative teaching strategies, including team-based learning and problem-based learning.
- Background in curricular and instructional design.
- Record of scholarly contributions.
