Position Summary

Building Hope in the City (BHITC) is a fast-paced and growing organization that seeks to advance the good of the city, magnify the mission of Jesus and unleash the capability of underestimated people.

The Manager of Ministry Engagement serves as one of the main linkages into the organization for volunteers, area congregations and other organizations, ensuring that external groups and partners find  meaningful service opportunities within BHITC, and that these efforts align well with programmatic needs  as well as the organization’s culture and approach to the communities it serves.

This role directs processes to recruit, onboard and deploy all new volunteers, encouraging the practical  development and spiritual formation of volunteers as an invaluable resource to the organization. To do so,  the Manager also maintains strong internal relationships with staff teams to best understand current  resource timelines, needs and opportunities.

The Manager’s efforts all happen within the context of BHITC’s overall Advancement Team so that the  “time, talent and treasure” of external partners can effectively be cultivated and coordinated. The selected  candidate will join a dynamic movement of disciples committed to using a faith-forward approach in addressing city challenges and making hope in Jesus Christ tangible.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and manage relationships with volunteers, assessing their abilities, interests and gifts, and  linking them to BHITC programs and staff leadership.
  • Work as part of Advancement Team to facilitate ongoing cultivation and involvement of churches,  businesses, schools, and other organizations as financial and volunteer partners.
  • Oversee processes for volunteer trainings, screenings and background checks; maintain database on  same, including tracking volunteer hours and maintaining database.
  • Lead and/or coordinate ministry trainings; speak at area churches and organizations about BHITC as a  means of community engagement and partner recruitment.
  • Schedule and host church- and business-based group service events (one-day, weekend, week-long).
  •  Organize and lead partner appreciation efforts and events. Follow up with volunteer partners on a  regular basis to gauge interest, learning and satisfaction.
  • Create and maintain timely and accurate volunteer-related communications to ensure current mission  needs are understood and well supported.
  • Support large-scale annual programmatic efforts and events where significant volunteer or church  partnerships are needed, such community service projects, Christmas Store, Refugee Youth Soccer  Camp, etc.
  • Attend BHITC staff meetings and professional development opportunities as directed.
  • Attend and assist as needed at BHITC organization-wide events for partners, donors and volunteers.

Qualifications

  • Significant previous work experience in human resources, nonprofit administration, business management or ministry team leadership.
  • A bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • A strong relationship manager and interpersonal communicator.
  • Highly organized and self-directed with an ability to simultaneously manage differing projects.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including some limited evening and weekend assignments as requested.
  • Computer proficiency in database management and word processing.
  • Comfortable with teaching and public presentations.
  • Passion for BHITC’s mission.
