The Business Development Director is responsible for all aspects of identifying new accounts, managing client relationships, pipeline management, and contracting support. This role will work with the operations and preconstruction teams in creating opportunities while maintaining balance between revenue objectives and exceeding client expectations with solutions. This is a role for an experienced and collaborative professional with a deep understanding of renewable Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) markets.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop key customer accounts and secure project awards of EPC and O&M contracts
  • Develop, manage, and expand project pipeline by executing new market growth strategy
  • Perform and manage research to identify and prioritize potential customers, expansion markets, projects.
  • Prepare and execute business development action plans for specific target markets, key customers, and project opportunities.
  • Understands the critical nature of changes in the EPC and O&M markets including competitor news, market developments and policy changes.
  • Support development of marketing materials for EPC and O&M Business units. Develop and administer presentations to customers and proposal forms.
  • Serve as liaison to prospective and current customers to ensure all needs are consistently met
  • Assist with and coordinate per-construction activities throughout sales process and final contracting.
  • Coordinate with Director of Commercial Operations and Legal to understand key terms in support of customer evaluations and expectation management.
  • Direct engagement throughout contracting process to maintain continuity of commercial terms
  • Collaborate with Project Development to define projects where EPC or O&M services are required and provide inputs for modeling or asset sales.
  • Provide budgeting assistance to customers as required and utilize a fail-fast approach to projects screen and indicative bids.
  • Maintain and improve Customer Relationship Management system (CRM)
  • Responsible for facilitating the development of the bid strategy in support of bid managers.
  • Able to effectively communicate to Executive committees and decision makers the expected financial opportunities and results in a regular and concise manner
  • Maximize internal relationships through regular engagement with department leads with consistent and concise communication ensuring long term partnerships.
  • Continue to strengthen and improve customer relationships and track progress monthly. Develop and maintain KPI’s related to outreach, market segments, success rates, and feedback from customers to drive strategy.
  • Participate in industry association societies and meetings or events as a means of networking with the customer base and other industry professionals.
  • General Management: Work with other managers and directors to ensure alignment between business systems, processes, and policies across departments.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in construction estimating, supervision, and/or project management
  • Must possess excellent communication skills - both verbal and written, with ability to produce highly professional proposals and presentations.
  • Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, changing priorities as necessary
  • Ability to work under time pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude
  • Effective oral and written communication skills as required for the position
  • Ability to be self-motivated, proactive and an effective team player
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, both management and staff alike, vendors, clients, and others

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:

  • Position is hybrid with work performed in an office environment. Must be able to sit, stand, bend, twist and lift up to 20 pounds. Travel up to 50% of the time as needed to engage customers and pursue business opportunities.
  • Attendance at industry events will including coordination with participants and management of any in-person engagements or booths.
