Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Director of Facility Operations directs the Facilities and Housekeeping teams, ensuring the physical maintenance of the Long Center campus and all related systems and partner facilities. Drawing on experience in managing event-focused facilities, this position will work cross-departmentally to ensure consistent and professional performance at the venue. The ideal candidate brings an organized and pragmatic set of skills and solutions to advance daily project management and event support for the Long Center’s operational needs and the needs of all partner facilities.

Overseeing the staff and systems that make our 240,000 square foot, 7-acre campus thrive, this position is responsible for planning, promoting, procuring, directing, and coordinating building management operations and required support services for mechanical, electrical, fire and life safety, plumbing and waste management systems, structural modifications, and improvements. This includes developing budgets, administering service contracts, and engaging with the executive team on long-term planning.Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Apply to Long Center and all partner facilitiesThe essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Develops organizational directives, policies, and procedures that ensure efficient operations and programs for facilities management.
  • Develops and coordinates comprehensive preventative and routine maintenance programs for the overall facility and mechanical systems consistent with budget and needs.
  • Directs managers and teams in the Facilities, Housekeeping, and Operations Departments to effectively and efficiently coordinate activities for all assigned functional areas of responsibility.
  • Develop, implement, and refine departmental systems and goals that support both the day-to-day and long-term objectives of the facility.
  • Provide advice and direction to the Executive team on all matters pertaining to engineering, mechanical systems, building services, custodial services, electrical services, safety, and transportation.
  • In collaboration with the Long Center leadership team and relevant public safety authorities, develop, implement, and refine Emergency Response Programs inclusive of safety and emergency procedures including fire, medical, evacuation, weather response, and alarm systems.
  • Collaborate across departments to support the planning, staffing and execution of events and operations.
  • Develop annual budget and forecast for all facility support systems and teams.
  • Routine financial planning, management, and reporting
  • Ensure prompt and cost-effective solutions for unexpected maintenance requirements.
  • Recommend modifications, improvements, and replacements for existing capital equipment and physical plant facilities.
  • Plan and manage annual capital improvement projects on time and on budget.
  • Manage and oversee facility service contracts and contractors, administer RFPs, negotiating contracts, and ensuring fulfillment in scope of work.
  • Develop and implement training, career path, departmental structure, and individual goal setting to support team development and retention.
  • Other duties as assigned or arise.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • Bachelor's degree in architectural design, civil or mechanical engineering, construction, management, or other related discipline required.
  • Thorough knowledge of operations, techniques, and procedures involved in the management of large, complex facilities, with a minimum of five (5) years’ progressive management/leadership experience in one or more of the following types of facilities: performing arts theatres, urban civic centers, conference hotels, or convention facilities.
  • Ten (10) years of progressive responsibility and experience leading a large, multidisciplinary team of facility personnel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business management principles including project management, budget administration, procurement, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Experience in managing capital construction and major renovation projects.
  • Knowledge of modern safety and security procedures and methods applicable to high-traffic, public facilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to project calm, decisive leadership in high pressure situations.
  • Demonstrated successful experience planning and overseeing regulated environmental and public safety operations (OSHA, building and fire code compliance, parking and transportation systems).

The employee frequently is required to use hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit and reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is typically moderate and can be high at times.
