North Central Utility (NCU) is one of the largest semi-trailer dealers in the world helping support the transportation industry and the critical movement of goods. A large portion of our business helps support refrigerated carriers that transport temperature-sensitive food and materials throughout North America.

Job Description:

As a Service Manager, you’ll be on the front line of our business seeing all sorts of repairs. Plan, direct, motivate and manage activities of the Service Department to meet or exceed sales goals. Identify and train subordinates and manage daily operations. Meet with vendors and service providers as required. Meet or exceed established sales, profit, and growth objectives for the Service Department. Acquire and retain customers by implementing sales and marketing programs and fulfilling the Company’s commitment to delivering outstanding service to all customers. Schedule repair work to meet or exceed industry standards by implementing innovative and cost/effective service products and repair procedures. Eliminate work-related injuries by following approved repair procedures and safety standards. This is a Monday through Friday position, hours 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM at our Waukesha, WI location.

Job Details:

  • Ensure Company policies are followed with regards to recruiting, hiring, training, and disciplinary actions
  • Ensure governmental requirements and documentation are followed with regard to work procedures, training, and record-keeping on hazardous materials and safety programs
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Utility Manufacturing concerning warranty procedures and documentation
  • Ensure service work is reimbursed promptly
  • Attend Service Manager Meetings and Training Seminars as required
  • Advise the Service Operation Manager of desired training for subordinates and self
  • Make specific expense recommendations for tools and equipment
  • Review Company reports ensuring Service Department Sales and expenses are meeting or exceeding company standards
  • Review customer work status report quarterly and communicate status to Service Operations Manager
  • Formally review the performance of all service and direct subordinates once per year using company reports
  • Maintain verbal communication with Service Operation Manager regarding market conditions and other factors affecting the progress and profitability of the Service Dept.
  • Assist Service Operation Manager in developing and initiating customer appreciation events to include (business lunches, trade shows, gifts, customer outings)
  • Maintain strong communication and business relationship with Insurance Adjusters regarding existing and future insurance work
  • Co-ordinate with Parts and Sales Department on Special quotes
  • Keep abreast of how and what competition is doing or not doing. (i.e. competitive rates, wages, new services, and growth)
  • Ensure the shop, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained and in good conditions
  • Ensure Mechanics’ tools are in safe and good condition


Requirements:

  • Associate’s Degree or 3 years in Management/Service of Heavy Duty Parts Operations for the Semi-Trailer or Truck industry
  • Supervisory experience is strongly preferred
  • Strong communication skills to deal with customers, employees, and vendors
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills
  • Team leader
  • Excellent organizational skills
