The Governor’s Prevention Partnership believes in the power of young people to change the world, and that the idealism of young people is one of our nation’s most precious natural resources. This service opportunity provides space to be creative on how we may develop resources and tools to reduce the impact of the opioid epidemic targeting New Haven Connecticut. This is an opportunity for a motivated, self-starter. We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference and receiving higher than entry-level responsibilities.


This is an AmeriCorps VISTA member position. Individuals who excel in public speaking, community collaboration, team building, training, and group facilitation, critical thinking and analysis, and enjoy working with diverse groups should apply. This service opportunity makes room for the VISTA to bring local prevention and youth mentoring opportunities to scale, have the freedom to create, develop and implement innovative and culturally responsive opioid prevention tools and resources, provide interaction with diverse stakeholders, builds networks, and have access to senior leaders across the state, above all, opportunities to dream and create solutions to complex challenges youth and families face.


Service for this full-time opportunity is a one-year commitment with the option of two additional years of continued service. All candidates must be approved by AmeriCorps VISTA. Proof of COVID vaccination is required.

This position provides an annual living stipend of $16,800, along with a one-year educational stipend of $6,495 and a one-year housing stipend of $5,000. Any updates will be provided prior any offers.

Requirements:
  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree required.
  • 2-3 years of job or volunteer experience required.
  • Interests in public health, human services, education, social work, youth development, community organization, and/or prevention.
  • Proficiency with data management and technology applications. Must learn organizational systems for reporting, data collection, customer service management, and training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with staff and external constituents, volunteers, and collaborators from diverse backgrounds in a professional manner.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus. Verbal and written skills n both languages are ideal.
  • Research skills and the ability to analyze and synthesize information into understandable products.
  • Ability to occasionally work flexible hours, including some evening and weekend obligations.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to The Governor’s Prevention Partnership’s mission and core operating principles.
