Opportunity 

We are seeking a Project Engineer for our Woburn office.  As a member of our team, you are responsible for coordinating all project aspects including: cost, production, schedule and installation.  A Project Engineer needs to be focused, organized and excel at bringing a high level of customer service to each job. The Project Engineer is vital in helping to produce a quality project that includes on time installation and maintains or improves profit in order to uphold our vision of quality, value and service. 

 

Role 

The Project Engineer will assist with schedules, estimates, requests for information (RFIs), field dimensions, punch lists, checking material orders against vendor confirmations, creating and monitoring project schedules, communicating with vendors and manufacturers, job-site coordination and organization and organizing project information.  You should be comfortable performing simple hands-on installation tasks and also be able to transition smoothly into an office setting handling project administration tasks and communications using MS Office applications, email, phone and internet.   This position will require travel within the territory on a daily or as-needed basis for deliveries, coordination or installation support and overnight stay is often required.   This is a full-time, salary position with standard hours 8am to 5pm M-F, but are flexible dependent on workload and scheduling.  This position reports to the Director of Northeast Project Operations. 

 
Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Analyze drawings and specifications to ensure that the entire scope of work is understood and has been addressed, accurately forecast the cost, size, and duration of projects 
  • Review architectural specifications and drawings and write timely RFI’s 
  • Organize incoming and outgoing project materials, jobsites, deliveries/shipments, project needs, project information, and supporting paperwork (shipping and receiving paperwork, packing slips, bill of lading, freight damage claims, etc…) 
  • Travel throughout the territory as needed to jobsites for deliveries, field dimensions, meetings and coordination using company pickup truck and box truck if able 
  • Document, organize and maintain project information (bulletins, change orders, etc)  
  • Assist PM as needed with office work, communications and organization 
  • Learn and apply detailed knowledge of product line, applications and industry knowledge 
  • Analyze and understand blue prints/shop drawings and be able to find mistakes or issues 
  • Deal with client concerns/issues and be able to work out helpful win-win solutions with  
  • Develop client relationships and build NEL’s reputation as the preferred laboratory furniture & equipment firm among contractors from site super to project manager to project executive as well as other subcontractors on any job. 

 

Qualifications 

  • 1+ years’ experience in estimating, project management or construction administration 
  • 4 year college degree preferred (Construction Management, or equivalent), HS diploma required 
  • Advanced excel skills required 
  • Experience with On-Screen Takeoff or other estimating software is a plus 
  • Safe, clean driving record (Employment contingent on clean Background Check). 
  • Proficiency in computer use, phone use, internet use, MS Office applications, email and basic office infrastructure (printing/scanning), etc. 
  • Experience with installation a plus 
  • Proficiency in MS Project preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to organize a lot of information, understand spatial relationships/design and communicate professionally 
  • Record of strong customer service skills 

 

This position requires some travel, up to 50% of the time within the New England Area and requires use of both your own vehicle and company vehicles.  The position also requires ability to bend and take measurements, lift and move objects up to 75 pounds.  At times, prolonged stationary desk work is required using substantial motions of the wrist and hand.
